I tried opening the Daily Mail link, but I got a message saying the page was not available. Here is another story I found. It claims when Prince Philip was hospitalized in April with what was termed a chest infection, the stay was actually related to the cancer diagnosis.

That is a fairly emphatic denial from BP.

I'm not surprised that they are considering sueing the Evening Standard; one has to wonder quite what the paper's agenda was to publish this inaccurate story, unless purely to cause embarassment and heartache to the RF...........

Do you not think the Evening Standard should have checked a a story like this before going to print?

One would have thought so Michael.

Still it's not much of a paper and perhaps thought that they would run with it and see where it took them.  Perhaps they figured that if it contained any truth, BP would have to confirm it and they would be first with this story..........

I do think that it is an invasion of privacy, on an issue that is potentially very sensitive.  I hope that they are taken to task severely as a result, but doubt that this kind of rogue journalism will cease whatever the outcome.

Well...One also have to remember Philip is not a young man any longer, any illness might be fatal...

Anytime an elder royal is ill should not be taken lightly. I am not saying that spreading rumours is correct, but speculation is fair game.

As of today Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh is the longest serving Consort as he has now overtaken the record of 57 years and 70 days set by Queen Charlotte,
wife of king George III:

Prince Philip - the luckiest man in Europe ?   I think so - where would he be today without having made the match of the century !  An out of work penniless minor European Royal.   There are plenty of them.

Wouldn't he actually be a retired British naval officer? Maybe even an Admiral or such, following in the footsteps of his uncle and grandfather? He was top cadet at Dartmouth and graduated from Portsmouth at the top of 4 of his 5 sections. and seems to have been a talented officer. I don't think he'd be out-of-work or penniless though he certainly wouldn't have the prominence he has now.
