Sadly, we are having the same problems here, GD. However, there is a chink of light (championed by the Prince of Wales) for retaining small, local producers so we can still buy "real" food in the UK. There are a growing number of farmers' markets, organic producers, etc so we can still buy from small shops but these are small in number when compared to TESCO, ASDA (the parent company is WAL-MART) and other large supermarkets.
Why we can't emulate mainland Europe rather than the USA when it comes to food marketing I do not know. But well done PofW for trying to champion our farmers.
