N III tried 3 times to conquer the power. he was twice thrown in jail, until he conquered... the money of Harriet, and a real power to organize his return ! Here is Beauregard, her castle, a huge building no longer existing (he was destroyed after WWII) MANY OTHER FRENCH CASTLES are named Beauregard, but this one does not longer exists. She rebuilted it in a more modern style and also owned stud-farm, farms, estates... She is said to have been very generous with people of her neightborhoud...

Strangely, Eugénie was quite a "poor" marriage for him without a real advantage (on politic or/and money point of view). Purhaps he was the first european monarch to marry only for private reasons ?? Her beauty was so radiant (there is not a photogtaphy that can give an idea of her charming majesty) that he thought she also will be a splendid lover in their bed, but he was wrong...

N III  was also a dreamer with something like king Ludwig II of Bavaria : they both liked to build marvellous buidings, and N III did so many straordinary architectural things as the link between Louvres et Tuileries, the reconstitution of the old city of Carcassonne, churches, etc. Here is Pierrefonds that Kaiser Wilhem visited (and then he decided some of his castles' renovations)  and that king Ludwig II visited and that inspired  him for his own projects):

Great! The last one is by Winterhalter right?

There seems to be a very similar one of Augusta of Saxe-Weimar, German Empress, Queen of Prussia.

Eugenie's wedding dress:

These link to a pair of Webshot albums (most pics of the Empress are in one, but the wedding pics are in another). There are 55 pics in the Empress Eugenie album and another in the Grand Brides album. :D

This is one of the ladies-in-waiting from the larger Winterhalter portrati gogm posted.

Eugenie is a favorite and the portraits that Winterhalter did of her are some of the loveliest of royal portraiture, in my opinion. I was just entranced by them as a little girl.

Many thanks, grandduchessella...I was persuaded the lady in green was Eugenie, but I see I was wrong...

It´s because their style is so similar. The "green" lady is a part from a bigger picture, where Eugenie is in the middle, and around her a lot of her female stuff... ;)

I found this on a Spanish language board that may be run by Hola!

It dates to 1849. This is a voluptuous woman. The face is hard to make out, but all I did to the file name "eugemontijo" was add the date from the caption. The caption is "SEVILLA COLECCION PARTICULAR EUGENIA DE MONTIJO - CONDESA DE TEBA 1849 Obra de MADRAZO Y KUNZ FEDERICO 1815/94."
