Here's one for starters...

The photo doesn't look all that much like Mary, but I do recognise the boys, especially the younger one.
Well Grace, what a beautiful picture. So nice to see it looking normal rather than stiff as many other photo's of that era. Thankyou. Lindelle

Popped into a local antique shop this afternoon and lo and behold guess what I found?

It's a bit beaten up and looks as though it's been used as an ashtray recently, but I am thrilled!

Nice find EE. The one I have still as the cigarettes in. Queen Alexandra also provided one for Xmas 1914, hers was smaller, with a print of her in jewels,  attached to the top.

Queen Victoria also provided one during the Boer War.

Thankyou r_n.
There's a similarity between Princess Ann and Princess Mary, which I think we've all agreed on.

But that photo was taken in 1910 (when Mary was 13) not 1904 (when she was 7).

Any information on when and where this was taken (as she is described as Viscountess Lascelles, it must be between her marriage in 1922, and 1929, when her husband succeeded his father).

Msge 64
Any details of the other people in the photograph?

Ann

In "Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother" Mary is described as "Not blessed with good looks." This, I remind you, is coming from a book about the Queen Mother who they describe as being, in 1920 as "a stunning young woman". Just compare the photos of them around 1920 and you will see what terrible judgement the writer had. In my opinion Mary was really quite pretty and I wish that her parents George V and Queen Mary had allowed her to follow her heart and marry who she wished although I do really admire her unwavering devotion to duty.

So true Marie.

Who DID Mary really want to marry?

I think Mary was attractive, though she grew noticeably like her father as she got older. There is a photograph of her in the military museum in Edinburgh Castle dating from the early 1920s of her as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Scots (in a simple blouse and skirt and regimental tie), and she looks very good.
