Another nice information is the reconstruction of the church of sennaya plochad in St Petersburg, this was a controversial issue. The church well-known thanks to Dostoievski and his character of Raskolnikov was destroyed under the soviet period. Major repairs on the place raises the question of the reconstruction, once was proposed a partial reconstruction of the steeple but after a public debate, the whole reconstructrion of the 18th century building have been choiced. As a conclusion, the place will  finally regain is original appearance for the whole.

It never really lost it, Vassili, it has been a beautiful working church for years.  All it needs is some structural maintenance. It survived revolutions and wars, it will stand.  Unlike St Issac's and the Spilled Blood, it is not a museum so there is no charge to enter.   Kazan is nice, but not the best in St.P. IMO.

Kamenostrovsky was owned by the Imperial Family and used by heir's to the throne. Alexander I resided here at one point and if I remember correctly it was from here that he planned the defense against Napoleon's invasion. It was used as a rest home for the Air Force during the Soviet period. It had one of the mowst beautiful gardens in St. Petersburg which has been downsized considerably over the years.

Some news on the near to open hotel Four season in the ancient Lobanov-Rostovski palace known as House of lions.

The reconstruction was one of the scandal of those last years, including destructions of some historic structures. Some modern adds have been avoided thanks to the mobilisation of public opinion however if the glass coupola have not been build, the roof have been modified in a modern way that is quite inappropriate for petersburg lovers as we are.
