Princess Ingrid of Sweden was born 28 March 1910. She was the only daughter of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden and his first wife, Princess Margaret of Connaught. By her mother, she also was a greatgranddaughter of Queen Victoria.

She was baptized with names of Ingrid Victoria Sofia Louise Margareta Bernadotte. She had two elder brothers, Gustav Adolf and Sigvard, and two younger, Bertil and Carl Johan.

When she was ten years old, her mother died brutally and her father remarried in 1923 with Princess Louise of Battenberg who became a second mother for the five children.

In 1935, Ingrid married Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark (1899-1972). The couple had three daughters :

- Princess Margrethe (born. 1940 ), now Queen of Denmark,
- Princess Benedikte (b.1944)
- Princess Anne-Marie (b.1946), later Queen of Greece

In 1947, King Christian X died and Ingrid became Queen of Denmark. She always was recognized as a dignified, generous and highly respected Queen.

On her passing in 2000, Queen Ingrid was interred next to her husband outside Roskilde Cathedral near Copenhagen.

The Crown Princess's death was unexpected, but I don't think it would be considered brutal. I don't remember the exact cause of death, but it was brought on by illness.

I wonder how well the two sisters-in-law got along.  Ingrid and Caroline-Mathilde were very, very different.

I don't think that there was much of a relationship to be honest; the two ladies were simply too different, and the
jovial manners of prince Knud was not Queen Ingrid's cup of tea! Besides, the change of the succession law in
1953 didn't exactly make matters any easier! Prince Knud and Princess Caroline-Mathilde were usually invited along to the royal events
and everybody kept up appearances! It wasn't till after the death of King Frederik and Hereditary Prince Knud that we (the Danes)
got a bit of insight as to their strained relationship. And to this day, we still don't know the whole story.

She must have been quite a remarkable and very charming lady. She and her husband Frederik IX raised three very normal and charming daughters. What a treasure of a grandmother as well. No wonder she is remembered with great love by her family and the Danish people.

Ingrid was indeed always extremely popular in her adoptive country.

Her positive and irreproachable attitude during the war contributed much there.
