Auersperg family
« on: March 19, 2006, 10:53:26 AM »
Dear discussion group,

I am searching for information about Aglaë Gräfin von Kinsky, Wchinitz und Tettau.
She was born on March 28th 1868 (Prague) and died on May 10th 1919 (Mährisch-Kromau).

She married Ferdinand, Graf Kinsky in 1891 (Prague) and had the following children:
1) Ulrich (1893-1938.)
2) Ernestine Antonia (1895-1969)
3) Marie Valérie (1896-1963)
4) Rudolf (1898-1965)
5) Maria Johanna (1900-1976)
6) Johanna (1902-1964)
7) Ferdinand (1907-1969)

I know that she was a close friend of Marie Valérie, Archduchess of Austria.

... and I'd love to see pics of Aglaë and her family.

die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

For Agneschen:

Paul Theroff calles her "Aglaë" in his Online Gotha. But I also came across "Aglaja" - I prefer the second version.

Wonderful pic, thank you Marie ! Aglae looks gorgeous !

As for her name, it seems to me that Aglae was a Greek muse or something of the kind - it would be interesting to know what the name would be in Greek. I think Aglaja must be the German version. In French, the name would be Aglae - it was fashionable at the time in aristocratic circles to give French names so maybe this is why she was called so. She may have been christened Aglaja but called Aglae by her relatives/friends. Just my 2 cents though.
I need to check but it seems to me that in her diary Archduchess Marie Valerie refers to her as Aglae.

i wonder if she was close to her sister-in-law the
New York heiress Florence Elsworth Hazard?
Florence married her brother Prince Franz von Auersperg in 1899.

Archduchess Marie Valérie called her "Aglaë", but Marie Redwitz - who got to know the Princess in 1889 - refers to her as "Aglaia".

Redwitz decribes Aglaë in her book "Hofchronik" as very beautiful, nice and kind girl. Besides she thought it was a nice trait of Marie Valérie's character to have such a beautiful girl next to her all the time - maybe Redwitz didn't like Marie Valérie's looks?  ;)

Aglae schould be translated in greek as ''shinney''!Aglae in Greek mithology was one of the Kharites(Gratiae in Latin),godesses of beauty! There are several versions who their parents were!By one version they were daughters of Zeus and Eurynome,by another daughters of Helios and Aegle(I tell you this name in latin) and by third version they were daughters of  Dionysos and Aphrodite...so much about Greek mithology  :)

Royalboy, do you know anything else about this woman?  I am interested in Americans who married into royalty/nobility.

Prince_Christopher,
I have looked all over the internet and can't find any info on this lady.  I just assumed that by marrying
Prince Franz she had to be an heiress.  Like you i am also interested in american woman who married into the european aristocracy.  We should start a thread about them.
