The lady might be his nanny and the man besides her might be an aide-de-camp. Not quite sure but my best guess.

It might be his nanny Mariya Vishnyakova, but I am not sure.

To add : This thread was one of first threads I saw before logging here at AP. I love this thread, I learned many about Alexei Nicholaievich, and saw many new pics.  ;)

Интересна подпись Вырубов ..., значит альбом знакомых с А. Вырубовой, но не очень знакомых с дворцовым окружением ...
The signature Vyrubov is interesting..., the album familiar with A.Vyrubovoj, but not so familiar with a palace environment means...

Re: Reply #s 57 and 58   "Nemos": Yes, the young cadets with the Heir are the same in both photos (Zhenya Makarov with dark cap and Vasya Agayev with white cap.)  They appear in several photos with the Imperial Family on visits/excursions.   AP

I though they were brothers, but they didn't. One woman(then girl) saw Alexei playing with cadets Vasya and Zehnya near Dnieper River during summer of 1916, and said they were close friends, and one of them frequently went to Tasrskoe Selo.  ; )

And to add , those pics. of Alexei in 1916 are my favourite! And Alexei mentioned several times them in his letters to Alexandra.

Relative to the two young cadets that accompanied and were photographed with the Heir (mentioned above) from time to time, were they ever interviewed in later life (presuming they lasted that long)?  I have read some time ago, reported comments attributed to one of them as to how the Heir would permit them on special occasions to address him as "AN"  and a few snippets of alleged conversation. The Heir even was reported to have his own nicknames of "Clay" and "Sandpiper" for them.   Other than that, they seem to vanish into the mists of historical obscurity.  If there are modern-day relatives still alive with even fragmentary, but reasonably accurate memories that could be repositories of those times and associations, the recording of such would be interesting.  AP

Just what I was going to ask--how many, if any, of their close friends are known to have left remembrances?

In Alexei's case, I know Kolya Derevenko had been interviewed.

If we can, and can say their tutors, ladies - in waiting and Counts were their friends, of course they left remembrances. And few unknown people who saw IF during war, or in Tobolsk, etc. also toke part in some documentaries. Or their relatives. I mentioned in my previous post, a old woman who was girl from Mogilev which saw Heir with his friend Zehnya and Vasya.  ;)

Additionally, please refer to the topic, "The Final Chapter/Re: Leonid Sednev,"  and my posts # 25 and 29, regarding the so-called "memoirs" allegedly done by the young servant, Sednev, but not even a fragment or a quote from them remains, to known specialists, at this time.   AP
