Amazing Work Lisa!
I've always loved your wonderful drawings! I think it would be perfect idea (IMHO) to put your drawing with these portraits.  :)
(as an aside> Have you done any more drawing lately?)

By Ernst LIPHART (you can pronounce LipGart):
1900's [img]

Having stood in front of this portrait it gets my vote! Reproductions do it no justice at all. I could barely take myself away from it - it was so much alive!

That's awesome Azarias!
Where did you get to see it? I've always found that image to be quite breathtaking. Must have been something to see in real life.  :)

Let me think...I have touched-up two old portraits of Ella... I'll post them under the thread for the art by Romanov fan:http://forum.alexanderpalace.org/YaBB.cgi?num=1141087054/15#16

I happened to see it in Houston several years ago. The portrait was part of the exhibition "Jewels of the Romanov's." Nicholas seemed life sized. The lighting in the gallery was incredible. I swore he had breathe! I'm sure the crowd behind me didn't all that much appreciate me, but i just couldn't take myself away from his gaze.

I surrender.  ;D
I checked all the images I personally have, and you guys got them all! I don't think I have a single one that hasn't been posted.
Amazing collection guys! And thank you Lisa for posting those lovely higher quality versions. Much appreciated!
Great thread! I hope somewhere I can find one that hasn't been posted so I may post it myself   ;)

Edit - I found some: (The originals were uploaded by the lovely and amazing Zarevna Olga)

I have seen that first painting before. Isn't it in the Nicholas and Alexandra Exhibition book? Does anyone know who painted it and what exactly it is called? I know that it is of Nicholas II receiving communion as a priest at his coronation, but I can't remember who painted it and the title.

Thanks for your help!

Bah. I found it. It's in Tsar by Peter Kurth. However, it is cited as "Private Collection". So, I don't know the title of the painting or the artist's name or what year it was made.

However, I'm writing a paper and I'm incorporating this painting in it, so if anyone knows something about it or can direct me somewhere, I would be so incredibly thankful because I can't find a thing!

These are totally new for me. It's the first time I see them. They are excellent portraits , and the likeness is exquisite.

These look awesome!  :o

I haven't seen many portraits except for exerpts from museums and some 'Russian-painted' copies on Ebay.

btw, if anyone is interested, i can post the originals if the FA and/or the moderator says it's alright... each one is approx 1000x2000 (around 1.3 MB).
That would be SUPER Brian. It really would. If it's easier, I can host them on my server. I LOVE huge images.

In regards to some more protraits of Nicky:
Below are the portraits I believe were comissioned during Nicky's reign:

I apologize for the pixelation of this one:

Sorry, these are small:

I think these may be a contemporary illustrations:

Interesting thing I noticed: in the 11th picture down, Nicholas is painted with a portrait of Marie P. the Elder in the background!

Yes I have been in the room where it hangs. It is a superb portrait of an incredible woman.

This portrait showing Nicholas II wearing the undress uniform of the Guards' Dragoon Regiment used to hang in this Regiment’s Officers’ Mess. As for GD Maria Pavlovna the Elder, she succeeded her husband as Honorary Chief of the Regiment when he died in 1909 and his shown wearing her Regiment’s parade dress.
