RF4E - I love that picture of the theater.  I have never seen anything like it.

So I have to ask - where did you find it and do you know what year it is supposed to represent?

Sincerely I don't remember exactly where I've found that picture, I just remember that it is from a Russian website...but I have found it labeled as "Nicholas and Alexandra" during their visit in France, 1901...however my knowledge of Cyrillic alphabed is very limited.

Those pictures were posted in another royalty forum and the person who posted it (Fabian from foros realeza) said they were from  Compiegne, France 1901

Here two more courtesy of Fabian from foros realeza

I wonder what the story is on that image of the Cossacks (Convoy?).  If it is a review, why aren't they looking at the Tsar?  I thought that it was the Russian custom to keep your eye fixed on the 'reviewer' as he approached and passed.  Maybe this is just a fantasy piece.  Do you know anything about it?

Unfortunately I don't have precise informations about this painting, however I think that is not very accurate, since as correctly said by you, it was the Russian custom (and rule) to keep the eye fixed on the rewiever...perhaps the author wanted to portray the suffering of the Russian army during the First World War?, the "dramatic atmosphere" of this painting was the first thing that attracted my attention...just an hypothesis, or most likely it can be just a work of fantasy...

Attention  "Naslednik" (your reply #262) and "RomanovsFan4Ever" (your reply # 263):   The artist is Russian modern-day Pavel Ryzhenko.  Please see a great deal of information about this painting (Part # 1 of a 3-part series) and others of his work, that was kindly posted on this Forum by Daniel Briere, Reply # 1 (June 27, 2009), under the Topic "Tsarevich Alexei Nicholaievich," sub-heading "Who painted this painting?"  The artist apparently acknowledges that his paintings are not always strictly accurate, but his rationale/symbolism is interesting!  Regards,  AP

RomanovsFan4Ever, I have heard that one you posted is labeled to be ' Nicholas' last army inspection, prior to his abdication ' at Mogilev, in the end of 1916/early 1917.  ;-)
