Nena, Thanks very much for the paintings from the Russki Musee. I adore that museum. The portrait of Nikolai, is that done by Repin?  I noticed that Repin did at least 2 portraits of Nikolai where it appears as if the Tsar is exactly the same, but painted in 2 different settings: first outside a building that looks like his Krasnoe Selo house, and then inside the Winter Palace.  This one you posted is similar.  I'm not sure, but did Repin dislike Nikolai II?

You are very welcome! And I don't know if these have been done by Repin. Sorry.  :(

Yes, that one looks as if it is in the Winter Palace.  The other similar one is in front of a wooden house, maybe the one he lived in as Tsarevich at Krasnoe.  Perhaps this is thinking too hard, but in the one you just posted, Repin makes him look very small (and shy) relative to the hall, and I have always wondered if this was Repin's way of being critical.  I believe that Repin was part of the liberal intelligentsia.  But we can forgive him that  :) for being such a fabulous painter!

Was the badge made during Nicholas II's reign?

GD Ally, those are interesting sketches.  Modern?  What do you think is happening?  The middle one looks as if N is blessing A, with Alexei reading books on the floor... before going to Stavka?  Or is there a more sinister scene in mind?

Wow, I just found out that voice activation works pretty well in this interface!

Not entirely sure. I found them on a site describing "Holy martyr Nicolas“s life". There was also a bio and paintings on Ella. I already posted them to her section.
