Ipatiev House photo
« on: April 12, 2006, 02:48:21 PM »
My  1979 copy of "The File on the Tsar" has a photo (No 7) captioned "The Ipatiev House in June 1918, after the Tsar's arrival - a second outer palisade was built in the first week of July".  Does anyone know who took this photo and where it first appeared?

Thanks

the same picture can be seen on Gilliard book page 225 "le destin tragique de Nicolas II et de sa famille"  (Payot - 1921). So we can think this photos has been taken by Romanov relatives during time between Romanov arrival and time relatives were banned from Iekaterinburg.

A the beginning of the book, Gilliard aknowledge "L'illustration" which provided all drawings and photos. Then, maybe photos are from "L'illustration"... You should consult Elysée Muséum in Lausann where Gilliard has put all his remembering to know more about this

I think I remember reading in Gilliard's memoires that he and the rest of the party from Tobolsk tried to gain entrance into the Ipatiev House after the Romanovs were contained there, and they were denied entry and were told that they better leave Ekaterinburg. It is a good thing that they did or they probably would've been shot. I think at that point they had a bleak outlook for the family.
