1912 Film of the Feodorvsky Sobor

After trying several different computers, finally I have been able to view the film! But could someone explain to the uninitiated (i.e, yours truly) what we are watching? The first section appears to feature a font.  The individual members of the Imperial Family are discernable, and the Empress does cut a wonderfully elegant figure. But could we have more information about this very important day and the nature of the services which were about to take place?

Janet, I don't know for sure but the first part seems to be some sort of cornerstone laying ceromony and the second part after the church had been finished. It's good to see the Empress walking well in an official ceremony considering how bad her legs were, NII and Alexei were clearly visible and up front (as Emperor and heir) but the GDs were indistinguishable except of course for Anastasia who stands out because she was so short!

Sorry that I missed this original posting! well, one in 22,000 isn't too bad??

The first part is the cornerstone laying ceremony for the Sobor being blessed by the Bishop, with each of the IF placing a special stone, Vyroubova is there, Freedericks is also there, along with most of the important members of Court.
the second part is the actual opening and dedication of the Sobor upon its completion

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I love theater, but always enjoy having a program to rely on!

And I agree, Jackie3, it is good to see Alexandra ambulatory--and, incidentally, cutting quite a stylish and beautiful figure as well.

I look forward to more of these films; each one is found gold!

so much time has passed, and yet not so very much. I was born in 1966--Anastasia would have been only 60 and quite active,  had she lived.... She could have held me, could have held my children... So thankful am I for the films upon this site, the family removed from the mists of history become flesh as am I: here they are, participating in the consecration of a new worship building, as I may, alive and hale, yet so soon to die, of no fault their own but  the inexorable march of history.
