I think Diana did more for charity than Sisi did. She had more hope on humanity than Sisi did.

True, Sisi did her bit but only what had to be done. She opened hospitals, visited others, but what Diana did was so imperessive and untill this day no other Royal, or celebrity, did that amount of good work - or had such an impact on the world as Diana did, she truly was uniqeu and those who have lived during her time will keep remembering her because the charm she had, and the ability she had to break taboo's. Diana was simply amazing and it is just tragic she had to die before she had a chance to built on the work she started, but we all can keep working on her work, and as long as her sons live she lives on. She did change the Royal Family for sure, and I am quite hopeful that William and Harry will try to keep those changes. That is also what Sisi tried, changing the Court(early in her marriage she did try, but Sophie put an end to it), but unlike Diana she couldn't take it and let the Court as much as possible, while Diana sticked into it as long as she was expected to do.

Indeed ! However I think it was interesting that Sisi visited Arthop (where a full length portrait of Sisi isstill hanging there) and the other Spencer hunting boxes when she came to England during her "hunting period". It is history's way of linking people as you would imagine a young Diana looking at the big portrait of Sisi and wonder who the lady was...

Yes, one could imagine and it would've been something for Diana, or to me it seems to be. Was it in Hamanns book on Elisabeth? I really gotta read it but they only seem to have the German copy here, and I can't read German unfortunately. I only have one bio on Sisi, by Martin Ros(the only bio in Dutch so far), and it does mention her visits to England but not that she visited Althorp. once again, it's amazing how much you get to know on here ;)

Well information is the key. I heard Diana's brother did tours on Althorp, but once when asked who the lady in the portrait (The Sisi one that is still hanging there), he did not know who she was. It would safe to say that Diana did not know who the beautiful lady on the horse was, especially when she was a child. I also heard that Sisi was friends with Earl and Countess Spencer, that would be Diana's great grandfather ?

Yes, that should be. And I don't know if Diana knew about Sisi, but as a child I don't think she did. Maybe she knew the movies with Romy Schneider, but I don't think she knew the history and who she actually was...

What a rediculous thread if I may say so,and otherwise,I still do.It has nothing to do with history whatshowever, but other then that is totally fiction.Di knew about Sissi? As she said herself she wasn't the smartest kid in the block,Di would have only known about Sissy after a tough enough 3 day briefing, the poor thing.

Comparing apples and pears here.Di and Sissi?the only thing these two had in common was their sence of hysteria.

Well...If you check facts, Barbara Cartland did wrote a bio on Sisi (very easy to read). There is a good chance it might be among her BC collection of books. Also both were beautiful, charming and famed women of their time. Both had sickness (mental & physical) that they did overcome. They were also leaders in fashion...the list goes on and on...

Facts is facts. They do had a lot in common, but on the other hand their situations were quite different.

True, and you can think about both of them what you want but you can't deny that they both left a mark on history, Elisabeth worked on the Hungarian case, making Austria and Hungary a double-monarchy - and the first time there really was some form of peace between the two countries since the Rebelions of 1848. And as for Diana, she did allot to make unspoken isseus accepted(Aids, Lepra and such) and had something that made people listen. Something that is missed with humanitarians of these day(after all, Diana had the strenght to reach out and make people care) - and so they both did mean something and both will be remembered.

More accuratly, sense of style. You can't deny they had that in common. She may have read Cartland's book, albeit I'm not sure it was that accurate, and also have seen in her portraits at Althorp, albeit not knowing who she was. It is true that Diana wanted to carve out her own role, she didn't think she needed to look to historical predecessors. When told she should read bios of past Windsor Queen consorts like Queen Mary or Alexandra, she would not at the time of her engagement ( according to the Anne Edwards (believe this is who) biography'' Ever After'').  I think Sissi and Diana did have some similaruties though as pointed out in this thread.
