Yes, dear Margaret had her faults, who does not ? But she did do some good. He was an importart patron of the dance arts especially,  musical theatre as well. She was devoted in her duties to the Girl Guides [I think Princess Royal is doing that now, but not sure].
She was a snob but loved to pretend she was just "one of the party"  And, she loved to PARTY indeed. She is still a fond legend  from the 1960's here in SF. Because of her status, she was able to get herself and her friends out of trouble more than once.
Sadly, I never met her, though  a  very good friend did many times, interviewing her for some of his books. A couple of other friends partied with her a few times. However, I did see her a few times at engagements.
ALWAYS, drink in hand, Sometimes a cig as well.
She seemed to me, to be the only member, until Randy Andy, who knew how to have some fun and make the best of her privileges and restrictions.
I  did indeed like the "old lush", a lot!

Hi Margot & Robert,

I loved her too - she was beautiful & glamourous (I can remember her from the 50's & 60's) and never boring....
Shocking, and unfortunately sad at the end, she "did it her way"!!

My one sighting of her was in Edmonton in the 70's.  I was late for her visit to City Hall and just managed to get there as she was getting into her car.  She was wearing an orange coat and my one glimpse of her was her orange behind getting into that car!!!  She looked good!!!!

Hi Again,

Off Topic - sorry:-
I just remembered my other celebrity behind viewing...
In the 60's, I was entering the Savoy Hotel in London and someone called out "There's Gloria Swanson!!"...
Somewhat dumbfounded, by the time I realized where she was, she was getting into a car;  and all I saw was her sable coated behind!!!

That ends my 'ass-end sightings' so far!!!

Well she was particular in her snobbery.  One of her attachments near the end was a market trader who had traded his way up and I remember a story that she went with him to a street market to look for bargains and didnt disguise herself.  With contacts like Nureyev and Fontaine, the Beatles and almost everyone else in pop and classical culture, it is a shame she didnt document her experiences.  By the way, John Lennon's name for was Priceless Margarine.

From the reports that I have heard, she could be a real pain to mix with, being matey at one moment and playing the grande dame at the next; lesser mortals never knew where they stood. To be over-familiar with people and then feel obliged to put them in their place sounds like self-indulgence to me, and the height of bad manners.

I've heard that Diana was exactly the same.....

There seem to be a few female royals with that personality dysfunction.

One does not have to  be a princess or indeed royal, male or female, to have those traits. I know of some who display the same arrogance and snobbery  on this Forum.  Trying to be amusing and insulting. Dysfunctional indeed. In case they have noticed themselves, they are not either- amusing or insulting...

I always have had a soft spot for Princess Margaret. I can't help but to feel she would have been served so much better if she has been better educated in her youth.
As for her looks, there really is no other Princess who can compare to her in England. She is up there with the most beautiful Princesses like Grace and Raina.

I don't by any means turn a blind eye to Princess Margaret's slightly worse points, no doubt i have heard some pretty rough things, but i still cant help but adore her, i think it was just a life unspent in so many ways really, a bit trapped. I honestly love her and yes, she was truly gorgeous. I always have this argument with my dear old dad, i argue margaret was probably the most beautiful, he always says he was around at the time, and that him and his mates preferred the Queen. There was just something about Margaret :)

Robert Brown has won in court to see Princess Margaret's Will.

Just scouring the daily mail.

Robert Brown has won legal victory of seeing the last will and testament of Princess Margaret.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2526551/Accountant-believes-secret-illegitmate-son-Princess-Margaret-wins-legal-victory-bid-will.html

From what I can gather after a lengthy court battle,  Robert Brown has won the rights to open Princess Margaret's sealed will.

'I am absolutely delighted. It is an important day for the fundamental principles of open justice and the rule of law.

'Historically it has been very clear that the monarchy should not have secret communications with the court.

'I am delighted that I have got this far and constitutional issues have been reopened and the points I have raised have been recognised as arguable.'

- Robert Brown.

If the mods want to add this topic on Princess Margaret's thread that would be great :)

How does this man think seeing Princess Margaret's sealed will is going to help his case?  Surely only DNA testing would prove his claims and as if anyone from the Royal Family is going to provide that!

This guy is twisted,  from other comments he first claimed to be a child of Edward VII,   when that didn't venture as planned he changed it to being the unknown offspring of Princess Margaret.   His stories remind me of Anna Anderson and other claiments,  when questioned why he thinks this, he gives answers that seem some what truthful yet it is so far-fetched it leaves doubts.  Even showing photographic evidence of a picture of him as a baby in a car and a shadow of woman that he says is Margaret peering into the window.

Why can't they get this guy tested,  if Phillip was willing to give DNA re: Anna Anderson,  then surely the Queen can do a test to prove this guy is lying.   I mean I have experienced my fair share  of schizophrenic paranoia and make believe stories,  (I have someone close to me who is schizophrenic and I have been present during their psychosis) and some how I don't think he is mentally ill.   I think he is some one looking for attention like Anna Anderson or Eugeina Smith,  wanting to think they are related to royalty not caring who they are going to put down.

The royal family (particularly the Queen) is not about to give DNA every time some nut makes a claim about being a member of her family.  Generally such persons are discredited (or give up their attempts) in the course of working through the legal system, when it becomes apparent that they have no proof.

Only if credible evidence arises and the story refuses to go away over a long period of time should the royals bother to involve themselves.  Such was the case when Prince Phillip's DNA was used to verify the Russian tsar and his family, or in the case of Anna Anderson.

The other thing to consider is, of course, that the royal family would themselves want to be 100% certain of the outcome before they got involved.  Imagine the fall-out if some DNA test revealed that a senior royal didn't have the parentage previously thought!  Monarchy is hereditary; blood lines are everything.
