Pushkin's Criticism of Royal Court Dresses

(1/1)

Lisa:
Does anyone know where Alexander Pushkin had spoken  "uniforms for Ladies" for the Russian court dresses ? ? ? ...  ???
Is it from a book? a quotation?  ???

Thanks!

Mike:
Pushkin registered the society's displeasure of the "ladies' uniforms" introduction in his diary, under 27 November 1833.

Lisa:
Thanks, Mike! :D :-*
...Do you have the full quotation?

Mike:
The 27 November 1833 entry in Pushkin’s diary relates to a dinner at the Engelhardt’s home:
The ladies’ uniforms – made of gold-embroidered velvet – are strongly criticized, especially in our miserable and disastrous time.
[Pushkin means a poor harvest of that year which led to a near-famine in many regions].
