Opinion of "Royalty Digest"?
« on: March 01, 2004, 11:37:43 AM »
I was just wondering does anyone subscribe to the "Royalty Digest"? I have seen their website and it does look interesting. I am considering a subscription, I'm just wondering if it's worth it and is it expensive?
Thanks! Angie

Personally, I like the  "Journal of Record" very much. I have been a subscriber since issue #1 [it is now  #116]. It is not a glossy  MAJESTY or ROYALTY or HELLO, but extremely well researched & written. Articles vary, with different opinions about speceific subjects. I do not think one could find a better read, myself.
Expensive ? I suppose that depends on how much one spends on magazines. Obviously to me it is worth it, I even pay extra for airmail delivery.
Alternately, depending on where you live, see if your library has it. The ISSN # is 0967-5744.
And NO, I do not get paid by them !

I personally know the editor of "Royalty Digest" and can assure you that it will be a first-rate publication.  Mr. Paul Gilbert started out with a publication devoted just to Imperial Russia, but he has recently combined all the various royalty publications he was publishing into one which will cover, not only the Romanovs, but all of the Royal Houses of Europe (Hohenzollern, Hapsburg, Savoy, Orleans, etc).  Given his primary interest in the Russian Imperial Family, there ought to be many articles of interest to Russophiles.

I think you've mixed up your Pauls, Coldstream!

Paul Gilbert is located in Canada, and does, indeed have the publications you mention, though I don't know the new title of his unified journal.  The separate ones used to be called The Imperial Russian Journal and The European Crown and Royal Britain.

Paul Minet is the editor/owner of the exceedingly good Royalty Digest, which is located in Ticehurst, England.

Penny, please accept my "mea culpa" on this one.  I was thinking of "Gilbert's Royal Digest" which is the title of his new unified publication.  I am not conversant on the journal you mentioned, although I should imagine that anything out of the UK in a serious vein would be worth looking into.

Oh Lordy!  I understand the confusion now!  "Royal Digest" vs "Royalty Digest" and both are run by Pauls... It doesn't seem the best thought-out plan, does it?

Anyway -- the above is a link to RoyalTY Digest in England.  I notice that there are now a few articles on-line that will let you get the flavor of things...

I have great respect for the person who pretty much puts Royalty Digest together.... Charlotte Zeepvat.  I recommend it highly.
So long and thanks for all the fish

Royalty Digest died in 2005.

Royalty Digest Quarterly began life in January 2006.

I have nothing but praise for this bookshop.  I usually order a book by phone and have known it arrive the following day.  If you live outside Britain I suggest you e-mail Paul Minet for advice on how to make a purchase from the shop.

Hi Historylover,

Paul Minet's E-Mail address is:=
minet.royalty@btinternet.com

A lady named Helen will probably answer you and she is very efficient.

The current Royalty Digest conference is being held in Ticehurst on Saturday, April 18th & Sunday, April 19th...

If you are interested solely in the magazine, Royalty Digest,  you should know that Paul Minet has not published the journal for several years.  Ted Rosvall publishes it as a quarterly.
