Mine is that my mother's aunt married a man born in Russia.  Okay, that's about it.   ::)  What's yours?

Yours is better than mine, but here's another.  Leopold I of Belgium http://www.answers.com/topic/leopold-i-of-belgium must have been a Romanov cousin.  The house where my grandparents lived in upstate New York was supposed to have been built by his illegitimate son, though if he was born in 1790 he must have been fairly young when he had the son and the son fairly young when he built the house, which I believe was built by 1845.  (That's not too young, I guess--especially if he had money when he emigrated and did not have to spend years working his way up!)  Anyhow, that's the story--my grandparents lived in a Romanov cousin's house!

We are part Ukrainian/Russian.  My mom's paternal grandfather came from Kiev in 1913 at the age of 21.  We're still not sure what the Russian last name was as it appears it was changed when he came to actually Nova Scotia first and then the US and we havent been able to trace any of the info.

My family is Native American, English, Irish, Italian, German, Egyptian, and Dutch. Not a bit of Russian in my blood, sadly.  :'( But my stepfather, stepbrother, stepsister, and half sister have a bit of Russian. They're so lucky!

My paterbal grandfather was from Minsk Gubernia in today's Belarus. He volunteered to the Imperial Russian Army during WW1 although he had received an invitation to join relatives un NYC. He was wounded and taken POW by the Bulgarian Army. At the Chirpan MASH he met a good-looking nurse and fell in love with her. The rest (me included) is history.

My grandfather was from Minsk too!  He came to America sometime before 1920, that I know for sure, but don't know the year.  He settled in Chicago and married a Polish woman.  They had 4 children, the 2nd born was my mother.  He was a window washer on the big buildings downtown.  Wish I knew more about him!

I have no connection at all, since my family is Moroccan...
But I feel attracted to Russia, I remember well that when I was a child, everytime I saw a map of the world, I was always looking at Russia.  :)
This country have always fascinated me.
