Braganza Tiara

Tiara made of arabesques, leaves and flowers, covered with hundreds of diamonds and mounted in gold and silver. The tiara is 12.5 cm high and 50 cm long.

This tiara was brought into Sweden by Princess Margaret of Connaught when she married the future King Gustav Adolf in 1905. It was a wedding present from her parents. It's a 'diamond-set tiara in the form of loops of forget-me-not flowers secured by bows, from which hang diamond drops.' It was made by E. Wolff & Co. and 'probably supplied by Garrard'. Forget-me-nots stand for true love in the language of flowers. The tiara consists of five 5 'looping swags of forget-me-not flowers and leaves, each with a detachable hanging pendant, all of which are separated by upright diamond springs on wire springs.'



The tiara was eventually given to her eldest son 'Edmund' who gave it to his bride Sybilla as a wedding gift.


Sybilla it to her son, King Carl Gustav. His wife, Queen Sylvia, now wears it frequently.

Empress Josephine's Cameo Tiara

"The color of this historical bridal tiara is very special; it's white: it consists of pearls, heightened with 7 cameo's who depict mythological figures. In the centre there's the crowning of love (mother and child), to where portrait-cameos of a man and a woman aim their sight. On the backside portrait-cameo's are interchanged with a godess who has a putti on her lap (caretaker) and a man with a staff (guard)." It was originally owned by Empress Josephine of France and passed into the Swedish royal family via her granddaughter Queen Josephine, born princess of Leuchtenberg.

It was given to Sybilla on her wedding day. She would loan it to her daughters Birgitta and Désirée to wear at their weddings. Queen Sylvia wore it on her wedding day. In addition, only Queen Silvia wears it and it is a favorite and comes out for special occasions such as the annual Nobel Prize dinner. "In the treasure chamber of the Bernadotte Foundation, installed in the palace of Stockholm, this showpiece rests in a display case."

Crown Princess Margaret's ruby tiara

This tiara was a wedding gift to Margaret from her uncle King Edward VI. It's is in the form of 'graduated heart-shaped elements'.

Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure

"The main piece is a diamond and sapphire tiara consisting of honeysuckle flowers and leaves, centred with large oval diamonds and topped by seven rectangular cut sapphire clusters. The sapphires can be replaced by pearls. The tiara is part of a parure, consisting of a tiara, necklace, earrings and brooch." The set had been a wedding gift from Napoleon I to his stepson Eugene de Beauharnais.

Queen Josephine of Sweden inherited this set in 1851, upon her mother's death.

There is an almost identical set which belongs to the Norwegian royal family. They had been eventually been left to Prince Carl of Sweden, son of King Oscar & Queen Sophie of Sweden. His daughter, Martha, became CPss of Norway.

This was a favorite set of Queen Louise of Sweden.

I think Sylvia wears her jewels the best of the Queens in Europe--she can carry off a variety of styles and has a large number to choose from. She has the lush hair to wear larger tiaras very well without seeming overwhelmed.

A diamond tiara mounted in gold and silver from the middle of the 18th century.




(I think she's also wearing the amethysts which belonged to Empress Josephine, a set which also contains a tiara)

Queen Josephine's Amethyst Tiara

This is the tiara that, I believe, goes with the amethyst set shown above--which I accidentally wrote as Empress Josephine's when I should've written Queen Josephine's.

The necklace and earrings the Queen is wearing in the middle picture are pink topazes.

There's something I've been thinking of: Silvia often lend Victoria and Madeleine her tiaras. Here in Denmark the collection is only for the reigning queen to wear, and then there is the ruby tiara for the crownprincess. Is that because the swedish jewels are the family's personal properties or what?
It's a pity Silvias jewels not are on display, I've would have loved to them in real life.

The reason could be that the Swedish private collection is far bigger than the Danish.
I've got an article from Svensk Damtidning; it doesn't say which tiaras
belong to the crown jewels and which are private, but there are plenty to choose
from and and pass around!
 
The Danes are paupers in comparison!
Princess Alexandra only had one tiara, the diamond drop tiara (of queen Alexandrine), and
apart from the ruby tiara, which is not very versatile, CP Mary is left with the diamond tiara
HM and Prince Henrik gave her as a wedding gift.

Yes, and it is amazing that the danish royal family don't have more tiaras than they do, considering that Denmark is one the oldest monarchies in the world, the oldest in Europe. I know that tiaras as we know them today, only started to appear in the 17th, but still, they should have more. The Bernadotte family is barely 200 years old. Of course many of the danish tiaras has been given away at marriages and by deaths, fx Queen Alexandrine's russian kokoshnik tiara (I once saw that on a exhibition with three of the Faberge eggs in Copenhagen, it was laying in a glass montre, and I bended my knees, so that my reflection could "try it" on;D. it looked smashing on me, by the way ), and many of Lovisa's tiaras was given away to her children.
