Yes, I'm a part of this generation too, although a few years before the movie came out my sister made me watch the Yul Brener version with her, more realistic, but fictional nonetheless. my question is, where can i find the Once Upon a December sequence online. I'd like to have that clip for my video library on my computer.

Nice icon!!! lol

I thought the movie was interesting, though wrong. But I liked the part where Nicholas tells Anastasia to jump, and Alexei leads her to the little waterhole, and her sisters all jump in...I don't know...It was strangely touching, until the scary, evil devil monster appeared.

Peace out.

I didn't quite like the movie. Well, I did when I was a kid. But instead of showing us the story literally, they showed it in a symbolical way that was 1) easy to understand and 2) would get the kids interested. Rasputin was made to look like the Romanov family hated him, which wasn't quite necessary unless you are trying to shorten the length of the movie. What they were trying to show there was that he played a major role in destroying the Romanov line, Imperial Russia, etc. They show the Russian peasants breaking into the palace, symbolizing how they had revolted. And so on and so forth. I thought it was interesting that Rasputin "drowned" in this movie. He drowned in the same river that Yussupov and his henchmen (so to speak) had thrown him into. And if you noticed, he never died. Just like it took Rasputin quite a long time to die. So all in all, it was more symbolical rather than right there for us. At least it entertained the kids!  :)

I would have found this movie far less offensive had the producers elected not to mix actual drawings by the real Grand Duchess with his fictional fantasy grand duchess. As it was, I considered this movie enormously disrespectful to a murdered young woman, but it was perhaps the indifference of the producers that I still find so very offensive nearly a decade later. Oh, and their attempted theft of work of Bob's and mine did not sit well with me, either.

I didn't realize that any of your work was 'pinched'?
Was it something  from the AP, or some other information? I am sorry if this is too personal a topic, but I thought the film badly drawn and infantile, then again - it was aimed at children.

Of course, that is the reason for it all. Still, if it could interest younger children into reading more about the family, I would assume that to be a good thing. LisaDavidson, what do you mean by what you said? The last sentence? Sorry, just wondering.

Peace out.

Rskkiya, out of interest do you take any interest in animation, or do you generally prefer live action? I'd be interested to know becasue I think the animation is very well drawn!

The San Fransisco Music Box Co. is the only place that is still selling it. Thats where I got mine. I ordered it from their web site.
I like this movie. I love the soundtrack too.Especially the scores. They are beautiful.

Well it's a matter of style I suppose. I am not a great animation fan but I do rather enjoy the style used in Waking Life.
I am no expert I admit it ... I guess I thought it saccarine and Disneyesque in form.

Personally, I thought the animated '97 movie (if that's what you mean) is very beautiful as far as the animation goes. I also really liked the music, and the voices. As far as the plot goes, I don't know. I took it with a grain of salt and I thought it was cute, however it was unaccurate.

I'm not  a fan of this caartoon because it was SO historically inaccurate but I love the music that comes on at the beginning. I guess you would call it the theme song. Does anyone know what the name of it is and if you can get it on a CD?

Well, I don't know the name of the song ( god knows I listened to it enough  ;D), but it could be called ''Once upon a December''? As for getting it, there is a sound track that has music on it from the film, and I have listened to it, but that was a while ago, I don't where you could get it-maybe Amazon?

Thanks. I didn't know that the soundtrack was still available. I checked at my local music store and they carry it but were sold out.  I'll probably check back or order it from Amazon.

Yes, historicly unaccurate, and a somewhat 'edgy' topic here, but personally, I liked the music too. There are several nice midi versions of "Once Upon a December" online that I heard, and found useful for anyone preforming it anywhere, or just fun to hear. But then, I have an addiction with these midis...
