Quote
The problems are much more subtle with N & A. Much of the history is true, but then there is the matter of including Stolypin in the 300th anniversary celebrations, when the man had actually been dead for 2 years I believe. I did have the impression that there were attempts for accuracy and certainly there was far less utter fantasy.

So I gather then that Tatiana revealing herself to a soldier and going on about how lovely she is was not pure fantasy? If anything, I would call that the ultimate insult to the grand duchesses.

I am ever mindful that many of us cannot always convey what we really mean by our posts. I certainly hope that is the case with this post.

What I said was that there was "far less utter fantasy" in N &A - not that there was none. I don't know how any reasonable person could possibly think this comment means there was none, or that what of it there was did not offend. If this could be explained to me, I would find it helpful. That there were attempts to make N & A historically accurate does not mean that these tries were successful nor does it mean that the filmmakers were consistent. I think the grand duchess scene does defame them all and never said it did not.

I have been repeatedly told on this thread that I take all of this too seriously and that I should just relax and say it's jsut a movie. I guess there are worse things to be accused of. I would encourage you, Ortino, since you are apparently not done with all of this, to discuss Nicholas and Alexandra on its own thread, because it appears nearly everyone else is done with this one.

I have reported your includsion of a matter I am not permitted out of respect for Bob to discuss to the FA. I hope it's just an innocent mistake and that you are not part of that lynch mob.

Lisa

All I was asking for was an answer to my question. There was nothing meant personally against you.  Because I find historical films and documentaries far more insulting because of the information that is out there and people not taking the time to study and get it right. The information is meant to educate where an animated film is primarily entertainment.

Personally I think Anastasia was probably getting a kick out of the whole idea. Imagin being the youngest daughter in a society where she was not realy important because she was a girl. Her behavior had to be to get attention because of her lack of status. Yet today she is the one remember as RKM said "not for what she was as a child but for things said afterward."

There is a program on Kids Discovery on mysteries. One that it covered was on Anastasia. The way they talked about the murders was and I quote. "Anastasia's family fled to their estates in Siberia and on July 19th men broke into the house and killed them."

Also the "Russia the Land of the Tsars" in the segment on Nicholas II and the Revolution comment was made" The Tsar's daughters were going to have to learn to live without their fancy clothes."

These are done as history this is what the general public gets it's information from.

I remember the first time I sat down with a friend and watched N&A she asked me questions afterward. Did this really happen did that really happen?

The same when were went to OTMA in New York. There were inaccuracies. Even I get a little miffed at that but as play continued I understood where Kate Ryan was coming from. She is a great admirer of the Girls in fact she told me in an email that Olga was her favorite.

I am sorry if you took what I said as personal. It was not meant that way.

Azrael

I absolutely assumed your innocence in mentioning the one topic I am not permitted to discuss and did not at all take it or anything else you said personally.

I have just but the DVD of Anastasia which came out in 1995, two years before the big Production one came out. I want to say I enjoyed this movie and the story seems to be based on the events that Anna Anderson told of falling for a solider and marrying him and having one son.  Has anyone else seen this cartoon? Mind you I prefer this version to the big hyped one.

This one is the most stupidist Romanov movie I have ever seen. It was so stupid.  I mean they didn't even put in Maria and Olga.  Also Nicholas looked really ugly.

This is my favourite. Sorry about the Pochantas movie.

I've seen them on the shelves in stores, but I've never actually bought them to watch. I wouldn't anyway, given the big production cartoon in 1997, was nothing close to the real thing. And that really bothered me.

Marie and Olga weren't even in one them? That's kinda...lame. lol The one in 1997 included all 4 sisters, but they made all of them brunettes (and Olga was a blonde) not to mention they gave her the short hair, when it was really Tatiana who had short hair.

I just kind of wish they would make a film (in English) about OTMAA and get the facts and looks right for once.

I thought Tatiana was the one with short hair?

Did you also notice that when Alexei came out of the tapestry during "Once Upon a December", he walked with a limp?
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I like Anastasia from 1997. It's about the myth of her survival, so it's allowed to be fictional.  :D I'm just glad they had all four daughters, and even mentioned Olga by name. And yes, I did notice Aleksey's limp! It's awesome that they would add that. It means they DID pay a bit of attention to what really happened. I don't remember this, but my dad told me that when we went to the theaters to see it, some man yelled out, "Oh, no, Alexis broke his leg! Someone call Rasputin!" when Aleksey jumped into the water during Anastasia's dream. A really stupid comment, but then again, I'm glad someone knew their history.

I've only seen one bad Anastasia cartoon, but I can't remember which one it was. It was awful!  :-X

Did you see Rasputin in the Fox Anastasia 1997 movie he is so ugly I was laughing at him he looks so nasty. Did anyone see hoe hidious he looked and his lazy sidekick bat Bartok. The song he was singing in the movie " in the dark of the night" with Bartok and all the bug creatures singing along with him. That song was wierd. Here are the Lyrics to that song. ;)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Artist: Lyrics
Song: In the Dark of the Night Lyrics
[RASPUTIN]
In the dark of the night I was tossing and turning
And the nightmare I had was as bad as can be --
It scared me out of my wits --
A corpse falling to bits!
Then I opened my eyes
And the nightmare was...me!!

I was once the most mystical man in all Russia.
When the royals betrayed me they mad a mistake!
My curse made each of them pay
But one little girl got away!
Little Anya, beware,
Rasputin's awake!

[CREATURES]
In the dark of the night evil will find her
In the dark of the night just before dawn!
Aah...

[RASPUTIN]
Revenge will be sweet

[RASPUTIN AND CREATURES]
When the curse is complete!

[ALL]
In the dark of the night

[RASPUTIN]
She'll be gone!
I can feel that my powers are slowly returning!
Tie my sash and a dash of cologne for that smell!
AS the pieces fall into place
I'll see her crawl into place!
Dasvidanya, Anya, your grace, farewell!

[CREATURES]
In the dark of the night terror will strike her!

[RASPUTIN]
Terror's the least I can do!

[CREATURES]
In the dark of the night evil will brew.
Ooh!

[RASPUTIN]
Soon she will feel that her nightmares are real.

[ALL]
In the dark of the night

[RASPUTIN]
She'll be through!

[CREATURES]
In the dark of the night
Evil will find her
Find her!
Ooh!
In the dark of the night terror comes true.
Doom her!

[RASPUTIN]
My dear, here's a sign --

[RASPUTIN AND CREATURES]
It's the end of the line!

[ALL]
In the dark of the night...
In the dark of the night...
In the dark of the night...

[RASPUTIN]
Come my minions,
Rise for your master,
Let your evil shine!
Find her now,
Yes, fly ever faster

[ALL]
In the dark of the night...
In the dark of the night...
In the dark of the night...

[RASPUTIN]
She'll be mine!

What they're saying on the street?
Although the Czar did not survive,
One daughter may be still alive!
The Princess Anastasia!

[FRIGHTENED MAN]
But please do not repeat!

[ALL]
It's a rumor,
A legend,
A mystery!
Something whispered in an alleyway
Or through a crakc!
It's a rumour
That's part of our history.

[A BABUSHKA]
They say her royal grandmama
Wil pay a royal sum

[ALL]
To someone who can bring the princess back!

[BLACK MARKEETER #1]
A ruble for this painting!
It's Romanov, I swear!

If it belonged to her!

[DIMITRI]

The legend,
The mystery!
It's the Princess Anastasia who will help us fly!
You and I friend
Will go down
In history!
We'll find a girl to play the part and teach her what to say,
Dress her up and take her to Paree!
Imagine the reward her dear old Grandmama will pay!
Who else could pull it off but you and me?
We'll be rich

[VLADIMIR]
We'll be rich!

[DIMITRI]
We'll be out!

[VLADIMIR]
We'll be out!

I like Aaliyah she has a beautiful singing voice singing for the Anastasia 1997 soundtrack
" journey to the past" the lyrics.

Aaliyah Lyrics - Journey to the Past Lyrics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Artist: Aaliyah Lyrics
Song: Journey to the Past Lyrics
Heart, don't fail me now!
Courage, don't desert me!
Don't turn back now that we're here
People always say
Life is full of choices
No one ever mentions fear!
Or how a road can seem so long
How the world can seem so vast
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
On this journey...to the past

Somewhere down this road
I know someone's waiting
Years of dreams just can't be wrong
Arms will open wide
I'll be safe and wanted
Fin'lly home where I belong
Well, starting here, my life begins
Starting now, I'm learning fast
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
On this journey...to the past

Heart don't fail me now!
Courage don't desert me!

Home, Love, Family
There was once a time
I must have had them too
Home, Love, Family
I will never be complete
Until I find you...

One step at a time,
One hope, then another
Who knows where this road may go
Back to who I was
On to find my future,
Things my heart still needs to know
Yes, let this be a sign!
Let this road be mine!
Let it lead me to my past
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
To bring me home...
At last!
At last!
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
yea...

" once upon a December" Anastasia 1997

Artist: Deana Carter Lyrics
Song: Once Upon a December Lyrics
Dancing bears,
Painted wings,
Things I almost remember,
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December.

Someone holds me safe and warm.
Horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...

(Instrumental interlude)

Someone holds me safe and warm.
Horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...

Far away, long ago,
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart
Used to know,
Things it yearns to remember...

And a song
Someone sings
Once upon a Decemb

OH MY G-D

I STARTED THE TOPIC OFF WITH THESE ORIGINAL MOVIES THAT WAS PRE-FOX version of ANASTASIA and now it has turned into THE FOX VERSION.

I DIDNT REALLY INTENDED THIS TO BE ABOUT THE FOX VERSION.  DID YOU NOTICE IT SAYS PRE 1997 movie.  NOT ANASTASIA 1997 FOX MOVIE.
NOW YOU GUYS ARE POSTING LYRICS. WHY DONT YOU START ANOTHER TOPIC OF THE LYRICS TO THIS MOVIE IN ANOTHER THREAD AND THERE IS OTHER THREADS DISCUSSING ANASTASIA MOVIE THE FOX VERSION.

I WANTED TO SEE IF OTHERS HAVE SEEN THE 1995 CARTOON AND THE OTHER MOVIE.  NOT THE CRAP FOX VERSION.

SORRY FOR VENTING IN CAPS BUT GEE IT DOESNT TAKE A DUNDER TO RELIEASE TO START A NEW TOPIC.

That is okay Liz  :) it is just that it seems not everyone reads the first post or the whole other posts before posting such things. I indeed didnt mean the fox version.  Hopefully this will not happen again.
