Dear Annette,

Sorry to interfere into your discussion, but I was browsing the net in order to find any reference to Abamelik. The matter is that my grand mother was Evgenia Michailovna Abamelik and she was the last representative of this family in Georgia. I'll be very glad if you include me in your discussion referring to this family.

many thanks

Dear Irene,

Would your grandmother be Princess Evgenia Mikhailovna born 1914 and died 1976, daughter of Prince Mikhail Nikolaievich born 1883 and died 1924, who was the son of Prince Nikolai Mikhailovich born 1845 and died in 1918, who was the son of Prince Mikhail Abelovich who was born on 10 April 1809 and was also known as Melhisedek?

Hi David,

That?s right, it's her. However we don't have any information about her mother. She was brought up be her aunt Varvara Nikolaevna Abamelik and unfortunately none of her (Evgania's) children know anything about Evgenia's mother. Would be great if you can educate me about my ancestors.

Thank you.

Dear Irene,

I found this information in the Russian language book Noble Houses of the Russian Empire, Volume IV Princes of the Kingdom of Georgia by Stanislaw Dumin and Prince Yuri Chikovani. I have known Stanislaw for many years and if you would like to write to him in Russian or French, I would send you the contact information in a PM.

Dear  Irene,

I read your profile and realised that you are living in Tblisi. You can easily write to Stanislaw in Russian!

I came upon a photograph of Stanislaw Dumin in my files taken at Paris in 1998. He is standing between Grand Duchess Leonida and Grand Duke Georgii.

This is a photograph of Stanislaw Dumin with HRH Felipe Prince of Asturias taken during a vist to Saint Petersburg in 2003.

Hi Irene

I finish work today for Christmas so over the holidays I will dig out the letter(s) I have and let you know some of the detail to see if the lady was one of your ancestors.

Kind regards.

Dear Irene

I do hope that you had a very Merry Christmas and a good New Year.

I have been through the papers I have and, as mentioned above, I have a personal reference from Mrs Wonlarlarsky to Princess Nathalie Abamelik recommending Lzzie Harris to her.  Lizzie was nanny to Mrs Wonlarlarsky's daughter and this letter is dated November 1915.  There are also two letters from Princess Nathalie Abamelik to Lizzie Harris, the first letter is from Riga dated 1921 and the second from Paris (Villa Trianon) dated 1923.  In the first letter Nathalie is asking about the possibility of Lizzie finding her a position of employment 'in a country house' and asking whether the Foreign Office in London would let her into the country.  The second letter is asking whether Lizzie would like to join Nathalie in Paris where Nathalie is working 'for a dentist' and if that happened then the possibility of them setting up a home together.  In both letters Nathalie refers to a child called 'Jim' who is at school and is 'different to other children' (the mind boggles!!) but she does not say whether Jim is her child or not.

Not sure if this is of any interest to you but if you have any information on Nathalie Abamelik or Jim, I would love to know.

Kind regards.

Annette

Dear Annette,
Unfortunately I can't find any information about Nathalie or Jim. What I know is that my grand mother (Eugenia) had three aunts (Varvara, Elena and Darya) and five uncles. Mikhail was Eugenia's Father and Nikolay was killed in World War I. We know nothing about Varvara's other three brothers. May be Nathalie was a daughter or wife of one of them.
Sorry.

Best regards
Irene
