How old was Gisela in the paintings? I think that she is less than 10 years odl, perhaps
eight?

Gisela as fiancée painted by Georg Raab in 1872.

15-year-old Gisela painted by Friedrich Wailand in 1871.

Ich aber breite trauernd aus
die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

She looks like a girl, I'd never thought  that she was as old as you say... thanks for the info ;-)

Yes, indeed, not a lot of women after having children have a tiny waist.

Her sister Marie Valerie is another example of this, i still don't understand what did she do
for keep a small waist after having 10 children!!! Of course that corset helps but... in Sissi is
more logical because she was anorexic, but her daughters wren't :o

I wonder were Gisela and Elisabeth close ? Did she support her decision on her marriage ?

Gisela was angry (and also Gisela's husband) because Elisabeth's husband was protestant. Franz
Joseph was the one that supported them, but really he wasn't completely happy with this, I've read
that he said that he wouldn't imagine his grand grand children as simply counts or countesses.
In fact that this event damaged the relationship between mother and daughter, Elisabeth wasn't invited
to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of wedding her parents.

Sorry that Gisela shared her husband's narrow mindness. Star points for Franz Josef coming into his grandaughter's resure.

FJ was much comprenssive with some of his relatives, other example is when the Crown
Princess Stephanie remarried, he was the only one that supported her.
Is sad to think that Gisela ruined her relationship with her daughter for this reason :-(
