You're quite right. There were many tuberculosis sanitariums in Yalta, and the empress organized bazaars to raise money for them. The money the children collected on White Flower Day went to the same cause.

The cover photo on the paperback edition of Romanov Autumn was taken in 1904, for Aleksei's christening. The White Flower Days took place in 1912 and 1914.

Both of the photos Emmy Lee posted are of Maria, aren't they? Yes, the bazaar photo is very likely to have been taken during White Flower days. I can't be sure, of course, but it's in Livadia, it's at a bazaar... At any rate, Maria was only about 5 years old when the cover photo for Romanov Autumn was taken! She's clearly much older in both of these photos -- I think she could easily be about 12 years old, which would fit the time of the first White Flower days in 1912.

Yes, she does look older there, but not 12. I am not refering to the bazaar photo, which was indeed clearly taken at Livadia. I am refering to the one of her in a white dress, by herself. But I think you are right, that it was taken then or around then.She seems to look a little younger than 12 to me, but ot could well be. I would have said that photo was 1909, myself, but you know more about such matters than I do.

The short version:
Anna had relatively little social status for someone so close to the IF. They did not meet as children, and they did not meet at a party.
