Jewels of the Tsars : The Romanoffs and Imperial R

NOT PUBLISHED YET

This might be an intersting book - Prince Michael of Greece wrote White Nights - the semi-historical/semi-fictional story of Grand Duke Nicholas Konstantinovich and of other books as well.

If anyone knows anything about this, pls post.

best,

Jewels of the Tsars : The Romanoffs and Imperial Russia

Book Description
The world’s fascination with the Russian imperial family endures, and with this stunning book a new spotlight is added. Jewels of the Tsars, the first book to examine the family’s unparalleled collection, is illustrated with extraordinary photographs taken under special conditions at the Kremlin’s Diamond Fund, and accompanied by 18th- and 19th-century portraits and photographs of the Tsars, their families, and their court. Prince Michael of Greece, a Romanoff descendant, writes with an insider’s knowledge of his family’s passion for rare and beautiful jewels, and their place in the troubled history of Imperial Russia.

About the Author
Alexis Gregory is a publisher, author, art collector, and deputy chairman of Sotheby’s advisory board. He lives in New York and Paris.

I have pre-ordered the book.
Prince Michael is a wonderful author, and his books usually go out-of-print quickly.

This book sounds great!

But I am confused.  On amazon.co.uk, two books about jewels by Prince Michael of Greece are listed, with slightly different titles and different publishers:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books-uk&field-keywords=jewels%20of%20the%20tsars/ref=xs_ap_sai3_xgl/202-2418519-9421415

Are they the same book, or has Prince Michael published a similar one before?

I am confused!  :-/

Some years ago, Prince Michael came out with a book about the Crown Jewels of Europe. That is a different book altogether. I am in England now and do not have access my my library or I would give you the details on it. It does have a chapter on the Russian crown jewels, but the book is not devoted just to them.

Hi Rachel,

It is not unusual that the same book can appear under two separate titles in the U.S. or U. K. The publishers are local to the region.

I once got caught out thinking it was a new title and ended up with the same book with different covers.

All the best,

Margarita

Thanks Robert and Belochka. :)

I have looked again and it appears they are the same book, as neither are published yet.

I suppose whichever publisher offers it cheaper will get my custom!  ;D

Has anyone received their copy of this book yet? I'm curious for a first-hand opinion of it.

Simply fantastic...we also will be reviewing the book in the next issue of The European Royal Histroy Journal.  Coryne Hall has written a very positive review of the book!

I have created a thread on the French version of this book Joyaux des Tsars somewhere in this section. I have seen & perused this book in a bookshop : it contains a lot of wonderful pics - some of absolutely gorgeous pieces of jewellery and some of members of the Romanov family wearing them. Some of the pics are well known but others (especially portraits) were utterly new to me (I am not a Romanov expert though).
The French version is already available on amazon.fr. I ordered my copy last week as a birthday treat and received a mail yesterday confirming the book had been shipped. It shall be here in a couple of days and I can hardly wait !

Mine came in the mail yesterday. The pictures of the jewels are quite lovely and most of the portraits were new to me. I don't know how this version compares to the other book produced by Prince Michael since I've never seen it, but I certainly enjoyed this one.  :)

Thanks. I'm glad to know the photos are different from what can be found in other books. Are they also different from the images of Romanov jewels that have been posted here over the years?
