Hi !

I watched the four parter series when it was aired in the UK. I thought it was wonderful ( because of the home movies !  ;D - loved them !)

Does anybody know if it is going to play in the US, or if it was played already?

If it's the same one I am thinking of,  then yes, it has played stateside . I had my son watch it when we were homeschooling that year. Let's see..I think it was towards the end of our "school year" so I am thinking it was about May of 2003 when we saw it.

I waited forever for this, but i was sort of dissapointed, because it went right through the last romanovs! I enjoy stuff on all of them  but i was like, man!!
In the u.s on history channel they played a History's Mysteries: Rasputin

right after land of the tsars. I thought that was cool.

In terms of speaking about the early czars of Russia, I think they did an excellent job. I learned quite a bit from it. However, I think they did a horrible job with the last IF. The whole thing was about Rasputin, not so much them at all. They covered the main points about the IF, like Alexei having hemophilia, but overall, terrible portrayal. I was quite disappointed.

Did any of the American forum members see "In the Land of the Czars" on the History Channel last May. Being Canadian, I did not have the opportunity to see it on TV but I wonder if it would be worth it to rent the DVD. The history channel write up on the series looked interesting - until I saw Nicholas II's reign listed as 1881-1917 without any mention of Alexander III existing. I hope that's just a typo on the website and not in the documentary as a whole.

Suzanne,
I have seen this and I have a copy of it myself. It it an interesting documentary. It can get a little "dry" with all the stock film then use. But overall, it's a decent doc. They do also mention AIII

For those of you who have, "History Channel International", tomorrow night they are playing the first part of "Russia: Land of the Tsar's" at 8 central time. Check your local listings for the times where you live! It's a really excellent show and everyone should see it!!

I actually wrote to them and told them that missed a "Tsar" in their write up.  No response of course.

I saw this on YouTube last night, I thought it was pretty good, although they did kind of blow right through NAOTMAA pretty fast.  However, like the segments on some of the earlier Tsars.  The Peter The Great one was pretty good, they covered how he dragged Russia into the modern world, kicking and screaming.

...is on TV right now!

History Channel 2 'H2'. Two hour program. Apparently it will be on at noon for another two hours.

Just making anyone aware who might be interested in watching and gets the channel.

Saturday morning with the Romanovs :-)
