Alan Rickman's voice was so incredible in Rasputin. Especially when he said "As the sun rised gently above the waves, you can see the face of God."

I love how Alexei and Grigori's dialouge of "Is the pain gone?" and Alexei whisper's "Yes"  as the scene returns is the same as the opening scene of  the rolling/moving clouds after the frame of Alexei getting shot. I had tears in my eyes.
Where any of you moved by it?

Yes, Alan Rickman has an amazing voice. And the score is also excellent, really beautiful and moving. It's a really well made film actually, probably the most artistic film adaption and the Romanovs.  I love the scene where Alexei gets a blood nose in the church and there's a wide pan of the ceiling, and the blood running down his face. And also last the scene where there's a sideways pan of Alexandra shot in the head and Alexei crawls up to her. It's all so well done.

This is all from memory, from when I hired the video like two years ago just before my video shop threw it out. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I really want to see it again.

Yes I remember that scene.  I also recall seeing Nicky getting shot and his body is sort of swaying before he hits the ground.  It was a more cleanned up version then the real massacre.

I watched movie long time ago, and I loved it!  ;) Since, I think, it should be more detailed on Rasputin, since I discovered some mistakes in years, etc.

I love this movie!, the Italian actress Greta Scacchi was excellent in the part as Tsarina Alexandra, I have noticed the "little" error of Catherine Palace too.

It is a wonderful movie, no doubt, but it does not shed light on  the person Rasputin was - yet tries to tell a more correct story than 'Rasputin and the Empress'. Also there were mistakes, as is said they are shown living in the Winter Palace, and some mistakes in years were made too. For instance Stolypin is shown to be assassinated in 1914, but we all know it was 1911 and then there was another one when Alexandra said something about '12 years of torture' which was so wrong, but I can't remember what year that scene played. Also Alexei mentioned Ella's murder, before the Execution of If, which they of course never knew about - though the scene helps to get the drama a bit higher. Also one example is the haunting scene of the 1913 Celebrations where Alexei has a bleeding, of course for the dramatic sense in this movie, which never happened in reality. But the costumes are wonderful and I loved the recreations of National Gowns etc, for the 1913 Celebrations.

Still this is a great movie, though at first I got annoyed with fact Rasputin is portrayed having a short beard - but Rickman's portrayal makes good much.

Agonya, earlier mentioned, is a more correct Portrayal of Rasputin's life but I still don't really like the portrayal of IF on there(but that's to be discussed in other threads)

A funny detail is that the DVD-cover has 'Rasputin' as title but the movie itself is titled 'La Fin de Romanovs' - which means 'The end of the Romanovs'

I agree with you, especially when A.F said something like '12 years of pain'. It is impossible she said it, or even not during regime. Yes, Stolypin was assassinated in 1911.

Generally, one of best non - Russian movies about the Imperial Family.

Now I know this thread is here to discuss the movie but I just realised I have not posted my MV for this movie and perhaps some would like to see it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUo4wz6t1sE - It switches from Alexandra's, to Alexei's and Rasputin's point of view

I agree that there were many historical errors in the film, but it was certainly a bigger budget film than most on the subject.  Greta Sacchi and Alan Rickman are still A-list actors.  One of the mistakes not mentioned before is that the cars used in the movie were all post-1920.  The seen of the 1913 celebrations was particularly well done, although it looked like the inside of St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.  Does anyone where that scene was filmed?  I'm pretty sure these celebrations were supposed to be in Moscow.

This movie is beginning to look like a classic movie ....

  Alan Rickman   ...    Grigori Rasputin
Greta Scacchi   ...    Tsarina Alexandra
Ian McKellen   ...    Tsar Nicholas II
David Warner   ...    Dr. Botkin

( or was it a TV  production ? )
