What are you asking exactly?

To the best of my knowledge it was an HBO made for TV movie that came out in 1996. It was good overall in my opinion. Rickman was excellent, McKellen did a nice job portraying Nicholas other than the fact that he was a little old to pull off the younger Tsar at the beginning of the film.

Factual errors as always but if memory serves me correctly the end of the film is something of a cliff hanger. Typical for its time and before we had solid indisputable (though some will try still) proof of the fate of the Imperial Family.

Hard to believe its not a movie.... its so choc full of  movie star names...Greta Scachi  etc
but then I remember a  lavish TV production with Lysette Anthony and Sarah Miles
....   about Monte Carlo ....  hard to believe that was  not a  movie either.

Think I'll watch it again and maybe tape some of the music .

I really like this movie, even it's not accurate in every detail. Good actors and beautiful settings.

I watched the Alan Rickman Rasputin 42 times in high school and college. And then I stopped counting. Now it's harder for me to ignore the factual errors, but it's still my favorite English-language Romanov film. I think they did an especially good job of capturing the relationships between the tsar, the empress, and Aleksei.

Must be  50 times by now.... you must have the complete dialogue committed to memory !

(cant really think of any  Rasputin  type figure in the  Marie Antoinette saga )

Come closer... Do you know what you have found? This skull was once my mother's. These bones were once my family. The blood our family spilled marked the beginning of the most violent century the world has ever known. Mama, why did they hate us so much? And why did they hate our friend, Father Grigorii Rasputin? He was my savior, my Merlin, my wizard. Father Grigorii was magic...

Haha, good stuff Sarushka!

I find Alan Rickman, in particular, irresistibly quotable. Although it's usually 'Die Hard' lines for me :-)

It never came out on DVD to the best of my knowledge and it looks like Amazon wants to sell it to us for $200. Fortunately it looks like you can watch it on YouTube in its entirety. Starting here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLmpPtche_Y

It must have come out on DVD at some point because I have it.  HBO Pictures.

The back cover information is written in Dutch, but the movie is in English.

Interesting. I don't see it available on DVD anywhere...standard issue at least and even one of the threads on IMDB is dedicated to the topic. People complaining that they can't get the movie on DVD. I guess it's just special order at this point.

I don't remember how long ago I got it or where.

I also have Agony which is another Rasputin movie that I haven't watched yet.

Did anyone try the HBO website?  Sometimes they sell their own stuff. I know that there are times when it is almost impossible to get a Warner Brothers movie, but they often have them on their website. It is always catch as catch can.
