In relation to the Stamps topics.  Has anyone collected any coins or paper bills from Imperial Russia.  I see these bids on Ebay all the time and often consider it.  Just a thought ::)

I have coins from the reign of Tsar Mikhail Feodorovich, Empress Ekaterina II, Emperors Pavel I, Aleksander I and Nikolai I. I did have a coin or two from the reign of Elisaveta I but they seem to have disappeared in a move. As for paper, I had hundreds of notes once but now only have a few notes from the reign of Nikolai II.

I see the coins on ebay also. I particulary like the large five kopek coins from Empress Ekaterina II but I learned while in Russia that one needs to touch and hold these coins in order to determine if they are new, there are of course some give away signs on many of the new fakes, such as the copper surface being blacken by heat, the edges of the coin being sharp etc.

Thanks David.  Especially for the tips on the fakes.  By the by, there wouldn't be any links that have other tips?  Just curious, I was watching a few bids recently

Merci

If there are particular coins that come up for sale you can e-mail me about them and I will give whatever opinion that I am able as to their quality, price and authenticity.
