Stolberg-Rossla
« on: May 30, 2006, 08:16:50 AM »
Hello!

Youngest sister of Kaiser Wilhelm's second wife Hermine, Princess Ida, was married into the Stolberg-Rossla Princely family. She was married to the 3.Fürst zu Stolberg-Rossla, Christoph Martin. They had four children, two daughters and two sons.
The youngest son, Johann Martin became the 4.Fürst zu Stolberg-Rossla. He was married to Hildegard Sauerbier, but they apparently didn't have any children. Who succeeded as 5th Fürst zu Stolberg-Rossla? Or this Princely family was annexed into some other branch of Stolberg family.
Thanks in advance.

Daniela

Well, thanks to both of you Marc and Rebecca.

I like very much the photo of the young couple. :)

So the Stolberg Rossla are extinct in the male line.
But the title was perhaps inherited by some other member of Stolberg family? I mean Stolberg Stolberg or Stolberg Wernigerode, or it is not done in that way?

I've found this lovely photo of three Stolberg princes from the different family branches

That is indeed a charming picture, Daniela! :):)

I think the title Fürst zu Stolberg-Rossla went extinct when Fürst Johann Martin died in 1982. The Stolberg-Rosslas were a younger branch of the Stolberg-Stolbergs, but I do not think that the Stolberg-Stolberg could inherit the title. But on the other hand, there are a lot of strange inheritings of titles to be found in history, so I guess it is not impossible. But like I said, I do think that the title is extinct.

By the way, I forgot to mention before that there is still another member of the Stolberg-Rossla line left.  :-[ Fürst Johann Martin's widow, Hildegard, née Sauerbier (born 1922) is still alive, as far as I know, and she is of course a member of the family. Shame on me for that mistake.  :-[ :D

Thanks, Rebecca! :)

Does Fürst Johann Martin's widow, Hildegard, née Sauerbier lives in that beautiful Rossla palace, whose photo has Marc posted?

Well, she was still living there a few years ago, but I do not know if she still does. If so, she has got plenty of space...  ;)

Elisabeth zu Stolberg-Rossla and her second hushand Adolf Friedrich of Mecklenburg-Schwerin are buried in Ratzeburg. Does someone knows the exact place? Cemetery, mausoleum?
