Why isn't there any information out about Prince Otto. Never hear anything about him. Only about the Princess. Why? ...and who was the girl that he was originally betrothed to?
Elisabeth and Otto met each other at a Court Ball...The rule was that a girl who belonged to an Imperial family had to ask first a man to dance and that such an invitation must be extended only once. But Archduchess Elisabeth smashed that rule by asking the Prince to dance with her 3 times...
The Prince was already betrothed to a Countess(one of the Schoenborn Countesses if I remember correctly),who was also present at the ball...When she saw what was happening she went home angry, but that did not disturb the young Archduchess who soon arranged to be married to a man she fell in love with...
That's the only thing I know about the girl who was betrothed to Otto...If anyone knows her identity for sure, please help
How did you come by this information? Please, Thank you.
As there is lack of information I tried to google and found this article where it was mentioned:
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1144&dat=19220122&id=7cYaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=uEkEAAAAIBAJ&pg=3313,2487709
Unfortunately they didn't mention the name of the Countess, but I think someone here said that it was a Countess von Schoenborn...if someone knows better please post
Only 3 Countesses of Schönborn would match the criteria of being already engaged to Otto at the time (around 1900) when he and Elisabeth Marie met at the court ball. Criteria was that they were being younger than Prince Otto(born in 1873) and unmarried at that exact time.
There were:
1.Countess Johanna von Schönborn-Weissentheid (1875-1957), who only in 1908 married Count Erwein von und zu Eltz gen. Faust von Stromberg. She was very distantly related to Otto, being his half 5x cousin once removed.
2.Countess Therese von Schönborn (1878-1949), died unmarried. She was very distantly related to Otto, being his half 4x cousin once removed.
3.Countess Elisabeth von Schönborn-Buchheim (1878-1945), died unmarried. She was full 4x cousin of Otto, both descending from Oettingen family, and considering the fact that Otto's mother was herself Princess von Oettingen-Spielberg, it could be her that he was engaged to, considering family ties. Also, the fact that all her sisters married very well before 1900, Anna to Prnce Gottried von Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Franziska to Prince Konrad zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, von Ratibor und Corvey and Irma to Prince Maximilian Egon II zu Fürstenberg, I assume it was Countess Elisabeth.
