L`Imperatrice Josephine
« on: June 07, 2006, 01:10:05 PM »
I am very fond of Josephine, I think she hasd a quite interesting destiny,

She was born Marie Josèphe Rose Tascher de la Pagerie in Les Trois-Îlets, Martinique on a slave plantation, the daughter of its owner Joseph-Gaspard de Tascher, chevalier, seigneur de la Pagerie, lieutenant of infantry of the navy, and Rose-Claire des Vergers de Sanois.African blood ran through the Tascher family. She married the viscount Alexandre de Beauharnais who was guillotined during the terror, she herself was condemned too, but was saved, from that maraige she had Eugene and Hortense.
As a widow, Joséphine de Beauharnais was mistress to several leading political figures, including Paul François Jean Nicolas Barras. She met General Napoléon Bonaparte, who was six years younger than she, in 1795, when their romance began
This was the beginning of the great love napoleon would have for her.

A fortune teller predicted that she wa going to wear a crown but would be unfortunate in love!!!

I really enjoy your thread, Sissi, because I´m very fond of Josephine, me too!

I think she had an unexpected destiny...and she managed it so well, with charm and kindness.

Thank you Iseult for posting that portrait I love it! she looks kind of sensual, the pose and the decolletage.

She did have a wonderful destiny, who could have thought that the young creole was to become an empress... :o

She was very elegant, she loved jewels and dresses, she was charming, as a matter of fact after her divorse and the arrival of marie Louise lots of people use to compare the charming manners of Josephine with the serious and shy Archduchess.

I think that the young creole proved to be more loyal that the austrian archduchess to their common husband, Napoleon. Josephine could be unfaithful to the man, but when he fell from grace, she remained loyal to him, and the same thing did Maria Walewska! Maria Louisa was not a devoted wife, at the end, when times had getting rough...

Josephine had a poor education as a yong girl as a matter of fact she could barely read as a young adult, but after she learned well to read , she became a great reader, the library at Malmaison covered a broad range of topics.
