I'm compiling together a Fictional story about Luitpold and was wondering if there was any information that hadn't be said yet? Any help would be great! Plus, does anyone know what the name of the coachman's son who died of Polio the same time Luitpold did? Please and Thanks!

Don't give up hope! He may not be Bavarian but we could debunk him! To me, his uniform looks US Civil War era, while it looks like he has a French Liberty cap

 In my opinion, the "liberty cap" appears to be in semi-profile a crested, billed helmet with a brass/gilded scale-type chin strap (by which the youngster holds it) and an oval cockade on the side towards the camera.  I have no idea as to nationality, etc., other than it's not the Prince Luitpold of Bavaria.  Regards,  AP.

This thread is very old, but since the question came up here: Someone who dies of Polio chokes. Polio paralyses and so you cannot breath while you are complete awake.
Perhaps you remember that in times when polio was still a big theme people who survived had to spend the rest of their lifes in an 'iron lung' which helped their paralysed breast to 'get up and down' and so to get air into the lungs. A cruel dead which this child had to go through, and the words of his father 'I am happy my wife passed away before so she did not have to see it' say enough.
It is not out of the world, we all should remember to refresh our oral vaccination.
