A quick thought, just a bit off topic:

As the Romanov men tended to be handsome, the same was not true for the women, in my opinion.

Some of them had a "different" sort of look like Xenia and Olga A.

Marie Coburg was not beautiful.  Many of the Romanov women were mannish looking to say the least.

OTMA were beautiful I guess as girls, but much of it came from their dress and the fact that there were 4 of them.


Interesting.. it seems that there were more boys than girls born at least to the main branches of the Imperial Family, later on. I think that could be a consideration. As well, there are different definitions of beauty. Many Romanov women were perhaps rather plain, but some would argue GD Xzenia was beautiful, and would be right. As for Otma, they were lovely. Not just youth and numbers was the cause of it; a good deal of it no doubt came from Alexandra's side of the family, as she was so beautiful in youth.Princess Irina A., the Otma's cousin was also beautiful, and she didn't have Alexandra's blood; so perhaps it didn't just come from Alexandra.

Yes, in a gentle way he was handsome. He wasn't spectacular looking, like his uncles with their height, etc.

I think the most handsome one was  Nicholas II. Even my grandmother thought he was very handsome. but for any age group, the young tsarevich Alexei was quite a handsome boy. Grand Duke Nicholas Konstantinovich was handsome as a young man, but his history of lovers, and marriage etc makes me think of him differently.

Well, George was good looking.. but I have always gone with Prince Vladimir Paley, or his half brother, Grand Duke Dmitri.

My vote would definitely go to Prince Vladimir Paley. When I was younger I used to think he was just my type ... I find him so  elegantly handsome with his classical, regular features.
