Quick question --

Was GD Michael's nickname "Flappy" or "Floppy"?   :)

I thought that I had read it was "Floppy" -- either one is a little strange, but nicknames often are!   :-\

I saw he was reffered to one or the other in different books. Could really be floppy...i think he got the nickname because of the way he slump into a chair.  ???

I believe his sister Olga refers to him as "Floppy" in The Last Grand Duchess.

I would say that most of the Romanov men were all regarded as good looking, more so than many other royal men, in other families.

True...the Portuguese ones were quite ugly...before the influx of coburg blood that is.

I agree.  The Romanovs did have more handsome men than any other royal family.  Dimitri Pavlovich and his half brother Vladimir Paley are my favorites.  Also, George Alexandrovich, a young Nicholas Alexandrovich, Michael Alexandrovich, Kyril, even Serge and Paul, Alexander Mikhailovich, the list goes on....

A quick thought, just a bit off topic:

As the Romanov men tended to be handsome, the same was not true for the women, in my opinion.

Some of them had a "different" sort of look like Xenia and Olga A.

Marie Coburg was not beautiful.  Many of the Romanov women were mannish looking to say the least.

OTMA were beautiful I guess as girls, but much of it came from their dress and the fact that there were 4 of them.

I wouldn´t say that - just look at the thrilling beautiful children of King Miguel of Portugal (1802-1866), who didn´t have a drop of Coburg blood in their veines. ;)

The Romanovs do not seem as inbreed to me as the other Royal/Imperial houses.

No but Marie gave birth to four very beautiful daughters so the genes were there.

Compared to her sisters yes, compared to the population of the world at large Sandra was beautiful IMO.

P.S.  Does anyone have details on the inhertinance fight over Marie of Coburg's jewelry?  Thanks!

I think the fight was written in "A fatal Passion" and in John Wimbles's articles in Royalty Digest. Ricardo Mateos's books on the Orleans-Boubon also touched upon the fight in Baby Bee's angle.

I think the Hesse and the Prussian princesses were much more attractive than poor Sandra.  :(
