I have Royal Hellenic Dynasty (among many others but in terms of picture books) and am of 2 minds of it.

One side loves it to pieces as there are many nice photos in it and it is a very well put together book with large photos that are well-presented and good quality. Just the number of photos gathered together is wonderful.

The other side says, 'ack, I myself own at least 1/2, if not more (it's been a while), of the images shown in here. Granted, I've been collecting for *ahem* years--all the way back to high school--but still. For a book put out (in English) with a member of the Greek royal family and knowing the access to some archival photos, I'm waiting for a book that REALLY blows the lid off of the treasure trove of less-common photos that are out there. (One of the things I loved about the Four Graces which wasn't even a photo book). I love the ones that are more informal--that weren't reproduced in mass quantity as photos and postcards or in magazines/newspapers of the day--but rather had pride of place on desks and tables and which were lovingly scrapbooked away in family collections.

Yet, this IS still the pre-eminent photo book on the Greek royals of the era. If anyone wants a single book to chose from in that respect, this is the book.

On a side note, I bought it when it was in Greek--was it substantively altered in photos for the English version? I have never figured out whether I should invest in the Prince Michael version.

I don't care to get the English version since the Greek version I got was the first print and signed...

I just didn't want to buy something that was fundamentally the same book only in English. If additional photos or anecdotes were supplied in the English version, it might be worth it.

^ I'm the same way, I did that twice, 1. the Nicholas and Alexandra book by Massie, thinking that it be "more stuff" i was greatly disappointed. but kinda had too since the old one was in really bad shape.  only difference that they printed less photos in the new one. so it was no biggie and i was working at the time.
2. when i got a second bio of Queen Marie of Romania, i was completely wrong. I gave old copy away. kinda glad since the old copy smelt of smoke (i HATE that)

I never saw the Greek Version of "Royal Hellenic Dynasty" it has the same cover as the English one, so i bid it the same.

Oh and i forgot i had these also in my collection:

17. The Wedding Number, the Illustrated London News , HRH Princess Marina – December 1st, 1934
19. HRH the Duchess of Kent – Anne Packard- 1950
20. A Romanov Diary- HRIH Grand Duchess George. Princess Maria of Greece- 1988 (Had this book under Russian Books)
21.  The Kents – Audrey Whiting – 1985 (About Princess Marina and her family, under English Royal Books)
22. Marie Bonaparte, a Life- Celia Bertin -  1982 (had this book under French books)

If you can get a copy of the Sphere wedding commemorative issue for George and Marina it beats the Illustrated London News hands-down in terms of rare photos and number of photos.

There is a new book out about the Royal Family of Greece: The Greek Royal Family from the collection of Anastasios G. Capa
Its from King George I until the fall of the Hellenic dynasty.

The book is available through: www.hoogstraten.nl

I'm thinking about ordering it too! :-)

I think there is a Greek book on its Princesses. I got that too. Got a few chapters translated. Ricardo Mateos has a book on the relations of Queen Sophia of Spain, it included chapters on her cousins and aunts too. :-)

I will do something on the subject...But Ricardo Mateos Sainz Mandrano also touched the Greek Royal Family in his book (in Spanish) on Queen Sophia of Spain's relatives.
