You are quite welcome, Teddy. I have many tears of book buying experience,  will always be happy to share  that.
To be honest, I do not think many  REAL members of royalty would pay these prices either.  First,  most do not have that kind of money and secondly, why should they? The own the original stuff in thier family archives and libraries.
Also,  this Ferrand seller, whoever the person may be, is not the only one to  do this.
I honestly try to give the benefit of the doubt to the seller, as I know how hard it is to make a living selling books, but by the same token,  such a seller is not likely to  actually sell anything unless it is priced fairly for the buyers.
And, frankly, I am getting very weary of paying  outrageous prices for poorly written and constructed volumes.

That should have read "years" but, come to think of it, "tears" works as well !

I want to pay a fair price, but this is such a giant ripp off. Probaly the seller is also a member of this board and know how desperate the people are and go very far to pay such prices.
I'm familiar with this seller and I agree.  I have no problem with a seller turning a few extra bucks.  It's part of dealing with rare/out of print books.  But that seller has some Eurohistory books going for far more than if you bought them from the source!  I think that is a ripoff.  Oddly enough, they also have a first edition of Vorres' The Last Grand Duchess going for less than an ex-library copy of the paperback reprint!

For those interested, volumes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are on sale on ebay right now.
I would personally love to grab these, but the prices out outragous.
I'm seeing 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, in addition to others, on Abebooks.com.  Expensive, but much cheaper than the ones on ebay! :-)

Thank you for sharing Robert. I sometimes think that this person thinks, that all members of this board are Royalty themselves and have all a bank account with 7 numbers in cash.
"If this a member of this board", maybe the person wants to reveal him/herself to us and tell us, why he/she takes such advantage of us members.

Teddy, I do not know who the seller "vfnyc" is who has the highly priced ferrand on eBay is. However, I want you to stop the innuendo immediately. You have no idea how difficult posts such as this make it for me to get writers and publishers to participate here. And, even if you don't care, our members do. So, cut it out.

Has it occurred to you that this could simply be someone liquidating a royal book collection?

Lisa, I do know the seller, personally and I know how he acquired the volume and why he is asking so much for it. He has his reasons, but, although I consider him a friend, I still think he is over-priced here. Obviously, he does not take my advice in this.

I find it very hard words, you are using Lisa! May I remember you, that you are a moderator who must give us people the good example. You could just have PM'ed me, instead you choose to tell me "to shut up", right in the open.

I have to agree with Teddy, Lisa.  The author of this book is dead, I believe, so you are not likely to get him on the Forum anyway. Besides, this topic is regarding  the sale of  books, not the authors or the contents.
I should also mention, that in this particular case, the seller does have a  "make offer" option, so he is not inflexible.
I think you owe Teddy & myself an apology for your "rush to judgement".

I just looked at the auctions.  The seller is in NYC.  I have no idea who the seller is.  It depends on you describe as fair.  The Ferrand books were published in llimited editions.  The books were pricey at the time of publication.  It is a silly thing to say that the person is a member of the board and knows "how desperate" people are.  No one should ever be desperate for a book, but if the seller can sell the books - and remember people all around the world sell and buy on Ebay. I have been selling on ebay since 2000 ... and I look at the Ferrand books on my shelves - and I think  .. Medicare supplements in years to come.  It is the seller's choice to offer the price - but no one is obligated to sell.  He or she won't get the entire amount - Ebay takes several cuts - the insertion fee and the final value fee and paypal will also take a percentage.

And if he doesn't sell the books - he can always lower the price.

Marlene do you recall what the original purchase price was for each volume?

Thanks,

Marlene, it's what you call "pricey at the time of publication". Only 2 years ago I could get each volume for EUR 65,- plus shipping. Now they go for 4/5 times the price.
But this is not the Ferrand book I'm looking for. I look for both volumes of Romanoff Un Album de Famille. I offer a fair price. So if someone wants to sell his/her copy, I'm your guy.

Does "Un Album de Famille" come in 2 volumes?  I thought it was only a single volume? Does anyone have a full list of Ferrand's books?
