It is not in our site yet...we are gradually adding titles, but it is listed in the catalogue we mailed to to all subscribers.

I just received my copy of Romanov Fragments De Vie.  Gorgeous, gorgeous book.  Now I know what all the fuss is about here.  I may be joining the others in the search party for the other books soon. :-)

They're photos from the collection of Xenia and Alexander's son, Feodor, and were taken between 1914-1919.  I've seen a few on here, but for the most part, they are very intimate photos of family and friends taken at home and on vacation.  The text is in French, but since the book is primarily photos, it should be easy to figure out.

I finally have all six volumes.  It took over two years to get them and I had to finally hire a book finder.

All together I paid about  $2,000 USD to get them.  I still can't believe that I ever put that much money into books.  Because I got them over time, the amount didn't seem so bad.  It was when I added it all up, I was in shock.!  That makes them about $335 USD each.  Of course there was the finder's fee and the shipping and handling from Europe and these books are HEAVY!

I have been advised to insure them for about $2,500 to $3,000 in case anything happens to them.  I was also advised to put them in my will and to make sure that a book appraiser is named to appraise them when I pass them on.

I don't suppose that they would have cost half so much if M. Ferrand had not died so young.  With the death of an author, the price of his books goes up.

I hope that those of you who are still looking can find them for less.  If I had to do it all over again, I would probably not do it.

Perhaps they will be my bequest to some library some day, or perhaps someone who wants the full set and doesn't mind spending a lot will buy them.

Volumes 1 & the Index are the hardest volumes to get. I'd love to get my hands on a copy of "Romanoff: un albume de famille" but that is also one one of the very scarce volumes.

newfan:

A book finder is someone whom you pay to look for the book in places that you can't go.

When I got my last two volumes of Noblesse Russe: Portraits - I hired a book finder in Scotland who kept looking and had access to sales before they hit the Internet.

Unfortunately, I can't remember his name now it has been so long.

His name was Martin, but I can't remember his store name or site address.  Years would go by and suddenly he would contact me and tell me that he had found one of the volumes that I wanted.  I was very surprised when the last two Volume 5 & 6 came up together.

I still need the General Index.
