Thanks Bobby for your kind words...when one wears many hats, it is impossible at times to be faultless and I am always appreciative of the leeway extended to us in this matter.
I get inquiries about books every day. We always reply to clients. Many times emails go back and forth, 6, 7, 10, 15 replies and then the clients stop emailing...they fail to send a purchase order...and later appear and say we did not reply to them. I save EVERY email that comes to us, EVERY reply that I send. I There is a peculiar fellow on this board who asks about books all the time (6-10+ emails) and then never buys anything. f someone chooses not to make a purchase, well, that is their right. But for the love of Christ, blame me not for it.
Now about Jacques...
Jacques' death was horrific. I was with him in Paris just two weeks before it. At the time he handed me copies of some NOBLESSE RUSSE volumes he had (as well as other volumes), which several clients had ordered through us. We mailed the books immediately and directly to them from Paris and Brussels. He brought me five boxes of books that morning in the same car that was to wtness his death two weeks later. I lost three cousins in France in car accidents. The French and their driving!
I have not heard from Jacques widow since receiving a thank you note for my condolences. I am planning on contacting her in a month or so to get all of what is left of his stock.
Jacques was a dear friend of mine. Every time I went to Paris we met for lunch or breakfast and our conversations would go on forever. He loved the Greek book I did with Prince Michael of Greece last year. He enjoyed all the Romanov articles we include din the ERHJ. He always expressed his disappointed of the route the Romanovs had taken in exile, but agreed with me that once out of Russia and nearly destitute, they were like fish out of water.
If I ever dared repeat what he thought of N&A and the end of the Empire, I would be burnt at the stake by some!
