There is a Serbian family name of Dragash which doesn't have anything to do with the name of Draga...

It is correct.

King Alexander and Queen Draga grave at old St. Marko Church in Belgrade.

Two days after murders, French people came to Belgrade, and filmed movie, 'Le tragedie del Belgrade'.

Queen and King postcard:

Thanks so much for all of the responses. I find this very interesting because I am married into a family of Draga's - and I find striking similarities between King Alexander and my Husbands and his brothers and father. They would be direct discendents if this was the case - however, I have read that she never gave birth. I wanted to know of the possible correlation between Queen Draga and this family located in the U.S.

Thank you for any direction you can give me!

Alexei,
Pola Negri did make a film in 1932 called "A Woman Commands" for RKO Pictures in Hollywood.  It was all about Alexander and Maria Draga.
It also starred Basil Rathbone and Roland Young.....

I think mistake in naming her -- She was Draga Mashin, not Draga Maria, but I suppose it sounded strange to them, so decided to change character's name to Maria.

I have also read that she had an affair with King Alexander's father who was in love with her, but when Milan abdicated she went for the son. That however seems unlikely.

Yes, King Milan was family friend to Draga's father Family, and they met once indeed. And, Draga and her first husband indeed met King Milan, then Draga had dance with King. She charmed him, and most probably he recommend to Nathalie to take her as lady in waiting.

I always wonder...I suppose Draga always knew she was really hated. Did she never thought she could had such a tragical death?

Yes she knew, she is subject of talkings in Belgrade, and she knew what might be have happen, she wanted to escape from Country several times.

Photo of Draga's first husband Colonel Svetozar Mashin:

Thank you very much for photo of Svetozar Masin.

I found information, that Draga buried him in Karaul in Petrovac na Mlavi.

Do you know why he was buried here?

For me is very difficult to read text in internet in Serbian.

I am trying to find how first name of father (doctor) of Svetozar Masin was.
Is somebody, please, who can help me?

Thanks

Eliana

I think this the only forum where it is possible to find the photo of Svetozár Mašín (this should be correct Czech version of his name, I am sure with surname, but I am not sure with given name, given name also should be Světozár).
I am from Mašín family in Czech republic. I know that some Mašíns moved to USA. I have found some of them, contacted them and they asked me what we (European part of Mašín family) know about Draga Mašín. They told me that she is our relative and that she wanted to visit her relatives in Czechia but there were some reasons why she did not visit them. I asked some relatives here what they knows about Mašíns in Serbia and if they ever heard the name Draga Mašín, but it seems that Czech part of Mašín family knows nothing about them.
I would like to find information about Svetozar and Aleksandar Mašín too, but at first I need to find at least the date and place of birth of one of them.

I am impressed that somebody other looks for information about Mašíns in Serbia. I wonder why?

Maybe because they were connected with the fate and life of Queen Draga...Svetozar as her first husband and her brother in law Alexander who after she became Queen had a leading role in her downfall...

Her is Draga as a girl sitting on her fathers legs:

And one of her a bit older:

Welcome, Stanislav. Svetozar Mashin was born cca 1852, died cca. 1886. I have never heard Draga ever wanted to visit Czech, but it is quite possible. Hope you will find correct information about Czech's Mashin Family. Fact is, Svetozar's father worked as a doctor on Michael's and Milan's Obrenovic court. And indeed was from Czech. Draga was only three years in marriage with him. And he often was out the home.

I have never heard about Draga Mašín before I found American part of Mašín family. It is interesting that American Mašín descendants know have heard about Draga and Czech Mašíns never heard about her (Czech Mašíns should be the main root of whole Mašín family). I suppose if she wanted to visit my relatives then the Serbian Mašíns are not so far related from me.

Today marks 106 Years since murders at Old Palace/Konak in night on May 29th/June 11th 1903. King and Queen were killed at 3.50 a.m. May them rest in peace, as long as Queen's brothers and ministers.

Queen Draga -1867 - 1903
King Alexander 1876 - 1903.

Ahh, I intended to post a little thing In Loving Memory of them. So here is a poem, accompanied by a trailer for the series 'Kraj Dinastije Obrenovic'(With English subtitles)

Restless Fate
A love too strong
is meant to last forever
and end in tragedy

A hated Queen
A disliked King
Meant to die
in violence

A young man,
unhappy child,
beloved husband
and the final King
The last of a Dynasty

A woman,
so nice and kind,
yet hated so much,
She married twice
but only once for love
and that love,
would seal her fate

Together they make a couple,
a fine Royal Couple,
A nice young king
A compassionate Queen,
Yet both misunderstood,
hated by their subjects
Found death at night,
so tragic was fate,
for they died in Violence

Now they rest,
Together forever,
A king and Queen,
Lovers for all time,
within the grounds
of their beloved Country.

Hope you all like the poem

and now the trailer:p

Thank you friend, it is well done!

Their bodies were out up to 11 o'clock in the evening. then Charikov, Russian said that it would be better if they put bodied into palace, or to bury them. What was done.

Christine's, Voika's and Gina's lives were saved, thanks to foreigners.

Portrait of Nikola Lunjevica,Draga's grandfather:

He was the one who arranged the marriage of Prince Milosh Obrenovich and his wife Ljibica Vukomanovich with whom he was even related...They were first rulers from the House of Obrenovich! He was very rich merchant and a very good friend of Prince Milosh!

So,Queen Draga was related to the first Princess from the House of Obrenovich!
