Don't you know Tim? She was a focal point figure during the American Civil War. Her father was President of the United States and forced to abdicate during the Confederate Revolution after they won the war, toppled his administration, and forced his family into western exile.

Of course as we are all aware the family was eventually executed on the order of Jefferson Davis...all except for Anna. She somehow survived and escaped abroad. Eventually settling in Russia in 1901 where, in attempt to conceal her past identity, she took the name 'Anastasia Romanov', married a prince, and became a Grand Duchess.

Hey, is it any less believable than most of her claimants?

All kidding aside. I'm glad to hear that the cover to the story was changed and Anastasia's picture removed...if that is indeed the case. It seems impossible though that such a mistake could have made its way past a publisher/editor, yes? You're telling me no one had the following Q&A exchange before this book hit the shelves...?

Q) Who is the real girl on the cover?
A) It's actually a picture of Anastasia Romanov. The famous Russian Grand Duchess who...
Q) Ummm, OK, well, does she have anything to do with the story?
A) Oh no, but I found her story historically fascinating so I thought it would be neat to have the main character in her image.
Q) Don't you think people are going to be upset and misled by that?
A) Well, no, I mean...maybe...I guess I never thought of that.
Q) Think maybe we should change it before the people start judging a book by its cover?
A) Yes, probably a good idea.

Cool! Does it look like there are IF images on the reverse , unseen sides of those objects?
I'm not seeing separate views of Tatiana or Marie. And is that Anastasia on what may be a sugar bowl?
Conventional characterizations of the GDs would have Marie better suited to grace a source of sweetness.
