So glad to see that at least one of my photos has been removed from that seller's listings! It appears that ebay did take my complaints seriously. I hope that these sellers get banned completely. They are crooks and this should not happen to anyone else!

In the future I will try use more reliable watermarks, ala Gd. Sophia. Thanks to everyone for your support! I'm going to keep a closer eye on ebay for my artwork and that of anyone else on the forum so we can get rid of them!

Ooops I got that much from the total of reviews he has recieved.  So it would have been a mix of old postcards, selling "digital" prints of both sepia, black & white, colored photos.

The colored are very new so probably account for very little of his sales. Even the reprints are within the last couple of years. Some of his authentic postcards (and that's what he was only selling when I first bought from him 5 years ago) often fetch high prices.

I don't think reprints are that laughable--I've done it with some of my own personal collection (though I always tried to use just the less common images). I've even sold reprints to some authors like Charlotte Zeepvatt. Mine were always clearly marked as such and from my own collection. It helped me to purchase more items that I want to publish someday. Some of the prints I bought later (and still) pop up on other people's blogs, tumblr, etc. What is funny to me is when people take an image from ebay and then act like THAT is their own image on a blog and get all huffy with someone else. I once had a blog (that was a short-lived adventure!) where I posted some of my images after I'd bought them from ebay and had some complain to me that I'd lifted it from THEIR tumblr! That stopped me from posting anymore pretty much from there on out. I occasionally post photos here on the Forum that are mine but I watermark them. Anyway, side rant over. :)

Ray has been selling colored images (at least the one he lifted up from Wikipedia) for at least two or three years so far , its not a new thing for him. I remember i sent a message to the colorizer warning him that someones was selling his stuff but i never got a reply.

About tumblr...you gotta bu shuuush if you  take something from ebay because you know that some other people will  buy it and own the original (if its a rare image) and you also got to be aware that there are THOUSAND of copies of some photos and what to say about prints, even more. So they accusing you  of taking images from their tumblrs is pretty RIDICULOUS, so ridiculous as that tumblr who takes images from well known archives such as the Royal collection, even the watermarked ones from the HESSICHE, and put a HUGE watermark on them with the link of his/her blog (If the owner of that tumblr watch this, dont take it bad, but put the watermark of your blog in images that you dont own or scan, even more when they still got the watermark of the archive, its silly. Dont do it anymore or you will probably have troubles with the people who runs those archives)

Exactly!  I used to get so angry, I had a couple people remove images that were OBVIOUSLY the ones I had just bought. Now, I just shrug it off though. I used to watermark everything I posted here whether they were mine or not just to keep them from being resold. Now, I only watermark my own--or, if it's from a book, I watermark it with the title of that book (ie Robert Golden's books in the past). I think watermarking is really the only way to keep images fraudulently being sold--other than that, it's a wild and woolly world out there and most people don't understand even the rudiments of copyright/licensing or just don't care.

I know. I've been collecting for 25 years this year. (Happy Anniversary to me! LOL) I've gotten some wonderful images from photos, postcards, old books and, especially, old periodicals (English adn foreign language). I spend way to much on ebay (and I see them pop up on blogs & tumblr at the same time which takes the excitement factor out a bit--like, why did I buy that, I should've just kept the image!)  but one day a book perhaps. Maybe I could borrow some of yours? :) You have a great collection as well from what I've seen you post. I've had a great photo of Queen Sophie hauling a chair in her widowhood 5 years ago and I've kept it back for one idea I was working on (family of Christian IX) and then, wham!, it is apparently in Robert Golden's new book. He found the same image somewhere along the line. Oh, the despair as I had never seen it anywhere else--which is VERY unusual. :/  Oh, well, such is the life of the royal collector as you know. So if I get riled up when people post my images for nonprofit, I sympathize with those who see them swiped out for profit. I've had that happen before, though not for a very long time, and it's just infuriating.

A serious author using images he found online? At least he gave some credit of the page where he found it :-o!!

I have just a little of royals, mostly of old buys and the rest on old periodicals (which are a good resource). Now im interested in having a virtual archive of chilean cdvs and old pictures in general, which  are not so common (at least they re hard to find in flea markets, they mostly sell foreign cdvs from italy, argentina, and some european ones, but not of royals :(

I didn't mean to imply the author used the image in a book--just that he obviously came about another copy himself.  Mine was from an old periodical--he could've found the same periodical or another one it was published in or so one. It's just that it was rarer because it was a 'paparrazzi' photo rather than a posed photo so it wouldn't be on postcards, etc...No, he has a fabulous collection and is one of my idols when it comes to the kind of books I'd like to do someday. I don't have near his connections, resources or collection. It was just that it deflated me to see that it wasn't a rare image anymore now that it was published in what will be a very popular book among royal afficionadoes.  Sorry for any confusion. Yes, old periodicals are a treasure trove of rare photos. They're my favorite resource. :)

Ohh , now i understand!. Thanks!!

Chilean old periodicals have a lot of good images and stories about some royals. In one fo them i found something about a supposed abdication of Nicholas II in the 1900s. I dont know if its fiction , but it has wonderful illustrations. I will look for it and post  at least the images which are incredible!

Look forward to it! I think some of the non-English language periodicals have some of the most interesting photos. Just make sure to watermark them! :)
