I wonder who these people are that buy many of those pics :P.
There is nothing special about this pics, everyone could print them, without paying more than the paper and the ink.

Exactly. And yet people spend from $1-20 on them. *shakes head* :-?

It baffles the mind, does it not.  I know some of these buyers.  What I am most amazed by is that some of them always claim poverty and lack of funds and dread spending money on good products, and yet here they go off and buy photos found inside every major Romanov book...simply amazing!

I guess these picture buying people are related to the person who purchased a used home pregnacy test kit rumored to have belong to Britney Spears for $500.00 on e-bay.

Well, a little update. I contacted one of the authors whose works are being ripped-off--no doubt about it since the author got the photo from an archive. They contacted the seller, smw, who totally blew the author off AND was incredibly rude to boot!  >:( The author is going to go to ebay who hopefully will at last live up to their statement about taking it seriously. I couldn't believe the gall of this person--ranks up there with lacrimae whose 'friend' owns seemingly every royal picture every made.  ::)

I have several E-Bay ID's - one for selling, one for buying, and one for silly auctions that I run that sell things like a yard full  of Canadian snow in the winter (buyer must pick up.)

I can and will use my silly ID to explore these thieves.

Bach, I love your signature!!!

OK - I'll be the gullable one, do you really have a silly account like that.  It's something I would never have thought of.

I, too, noticed that lacrimae has that "wordly" firend.  But I believe that the "friend" appeared after Laura began to question the provenence of the pictures.  So it looks he/she is trying to cover his/her butt.

No, lacrimae had been brazening out the 'friend' line long before the discussion started.  ::)

I was looking on ebay the other day and have been thinking about purchasing photos of the Romanovs, most of them say reproduced from an original.  Very nice photos they show, but is there a way to tell (without a special mark being present) if they are just that reproductions of an original of if they're copies made without permission?

Thanks

Well, if they're from the 2 sellers mentioned in the original posts, I'd stay away. They're both replied in arrogant, distasteful ways to people a) trying to give them advice in case they were making honest errors and b) towards people who actually have warned them off.  :(

Most of the prints can be found here anyway and you could make your own copy for about 25 cents.

Thanks for the info.  I apparently missed the message with the names.  Sure enough yes most of the pictures I want do belong to lacrimea74.

I'm actually one of those who would consider buying reproduced photos, although you're correct about not paying that much.

A few people have mentioned, just printing them myselves and the cost is only 25cents.  I'm still reading thru the rest of the posting to get ideas.  I dont have access to printing actual pictures at home (too much ink).  It would be nice though to have copies of some of these photos but in a good state that I could put into an album or sorts

Thanks

AlexieNichole - just save the photos on a floppy or CD and take it to a camera shop to print out on quality photographic paper. Some places yuou can even do it yourself, though it's a bit dearer.

I complained to this guy who was selling some of my colorized photos - he said HE colored them over mine, and apologized.  Now I'm still gonna report him to eBay if he does this again, he said he wouldn't, but oy, claiming it was his work... gah.  Stupid people!

Wow, thanks for warning us. I noticed those people selling printed off copies of pictures easily found on this site, and I also wondered who was buying them. What I didn't know was that they've been taking pictures colored by members. Lanie, that's awful that he is claiming it was his work! I'm going to start watermarking my colored pictures.
