I just saw this on Amazon. Has anyone here read it?  It sounds interesting -though a bit gloomy.

There is already a thread on this book in the Hesse topics. I have not figured out how to do it otherwise I would put the link in for that.

I think Bobby is correct...I recall a previous thread on this book.  Anyhow, I would not hesitateto purchase it if I were you...well worth having!

Thanks very much! I found the other 4 page thread. I should have thought to look in the Hesse section.

I have an advanced reading copy available for free (no photos) to the first person who wants it -- one caveat ... you must live in the USA only -as I can send it media mail.  Media mail/book rate is not available outside the USA

thanks

It is a very good book...I enjoyed reading it. The photos were also interesting as well as the access the Hesse family provided to the author.

Excellent, I look forward to it. Thank you, Marlene, you are very kind.

Is there any way that the photos can be posted here, or would copyright be an issue?

Helen - yes, it of course it would be a copyright issue.   One would need to go to the publisher's rights and permission department to inquire about permission ..

I understand you are in library school ... have you not had the copyright lessons  :)

I finished library school already, and yes they did brush upon copyright issues, I was just testing you but didn't really think you'd do it... ;)

But seriously, I would definitely like to see these photos at some point, they sound interesting, the edition you are sending me doesn't have any but I guess I can see them at a bookstore.

Nothing spectacular about the photos - and the quality is not good either, which is disappointing

I agree. And, they are scattered throughout the text, not on glossy "picture pages" sections.
