I've seen photos from a 1910 visit to Cherbourg I believe, before or after their visit to England that summer.  They were most likely there since France and Russia had an alliance and I'm sure Nicholas went to reassure the French gov't.  Or something like that!  I'm not home, so I don't have my pictures; when I get home on Wednesday I'll look for some photos I have of the French visit.  Olga and Tatiana saw the review and look rather bored in their big hats and fluffy dresses!

Thank you for posting the photos, Bear! Beatiful work, indeed! I'm not a great scanner...

The year of the pic is 1901, and the month of the year, november. I'll make some research about this trip, for in the magazine, they only depicted the trip, what the Tsar did in France, with whom they eat, etc...

The president of France in those times was Loubet. In the Argentine magazine ("Caras y Careta" who won the prix of the better informative magazine from 1900 in the EEUU), exactly in the pic Bear posted here, you may see the Tsar arriving to Dunquerke's harbour. In the first photo there are the Tsar and his Major-State. In the second one, you see him with the Empress passing in front of French Army. In the last one, Nicholas II is chatting with some French and Russian militar staff.

In the title you read: "French News" , and in the article there is some explanations about the Tsar arriving to Dunquerke and having a honorific dinner with the members of the Commerce Chamber of the city. After it they explained how they travelled in a very sophisticated train to Paris. Before they departing , the Military Band played "God Save the Tsar".
And the page ends saying that people came near the train, acclaiming the Imperial Couple. The article continues in three other numbers of the same magazines. I have other number from 1908 who states that the most elegant woman of the world was Alexandra Feodorovna who always would wore white and creamy dresses and was a very delicate lady.
I also have other "Caras y Caretas" numbers from 1901,1906, 1916, 1928 etc who speaks about  Anastasia's christening, Alexei's birthay, some other imperial news and finally the travel of AA to the USA's.
Ah! I forget! I have some little articles with pics about 1905 Revolution and one about Maria Rasputin working in a Circus.

RealAnastasia.

P.S: And if you wants something about Swimmings suits I also have some nice pics.  ;D

The travel  took place in 1901. They arrived at Dunkerque, travelled to Compiegne, Rheims and perheps Paris (I can't remember)...
Here is an French exhibition catalogue about this travel:

Hello to all!
I've seen a photo (several times) with Queen Victoria, Nicholas II and baby Olga (and I think Edward, the future Edward VII) on a visit the Russian Emperors made to England. I know Alexandra couldn't visit England to attend Queen Victoria's funeral in early 1901 because she was expecting a baby (Anastasia), but I wonder, did Queen Victoria meet Anastasia's sisters Tatiana and Maria, both born before the Queen's death? Also, was there ever any chance of having named Anastasia like her great-grandmother Victoria seeing that it was a much more popular name in the whole European Family than Anastasia (as far as I can remember, only G. Dchss Anastasia Mikhailovna and Anastasia Romanovna, wife of Ivan IV.
As a side question, did Queen Victoria meet ALL the members of the family (her descendants I mean) who were born before she died? This is, all her great-grandchildren etc?

No, Olga was the only one of the daughters she met. Nicholas was a fan of Russian culture and probably wouldn't have wanted a 'Western' name for his children. All of them had traditional Russian names.

Because Russia was so far away, the 1896 visit was the last time QV saw Alexandra even. A chance would've been at the 1897 Jubilee but Alexanda couldn't attend so GD Michael was sent as representative. QV and AF deeply regretted her absence.

Knowing how QV was so keenly interested in all her relatives, I'm sure none of her grandchildren dared neglect their responsibility to send photos.  :)

I think I remember reading that Queen Sophie of Greece took her children one summer and vacationed in England. I wonder if QV met the Greek great-grandchildren then?

Thank you GD Ella!
Is there any existing letters or documents that hold QV's impressions of the new additions to Alix's family?

QV thought Olga was a "splendid child" and I recall reading her writing to VMH that Olga was one of "the most charming babies I ever saw" or something ot that effect.  At the birth of Maria, QV wrote to Nicky congratulating him but added that it was a shame she was another daughter.

If they had named a daughter after the Queen it would have been "Viktoriya", but i am not sure it is an Orthodox name. I know there is the male equivelent however. As Orthodox Christians they are named for Saints of the Church, and Anastasia is to this day a popular name among the Orthodox. I know several Anastasias.
