I agree Georgiy!

The book is complete trash and is best ignored.

Alexandra belonging to a Satanic cult?  :o How do people think up these things? I'm a fan of anything werid or scary, (and this DOES sound scary, but not in a horror way) but it's a little too strange even for my tastes! Anyone who reads it, be sure to tell us how bizarre(sp?) it was!

Oh man... this slayed me. In the positive sense. This author must have been REALLY hard up for ideas... I could understand fictionalizing some of the events in the Romanov's lives in order to dramatize things, but orange rays shooting from a person's head? It's like someone combined the 80's superman movies with Mrs. Brown....

I have to read it.

Considering the author obviously meant it to be a light read, I don't think we should get worked up about it or anything. It would be another thing if the author were implying that this is true.

There too many publications that have been written in the name of creative literary authorship. This is one such example but with a difference: the tasteless writing lacks respect towards the Family that was annihilated by tragic circumstances.

I'm often less stringent in my views of Romanov fiction than Belochka, but in this case, I agree. I'm all in favor of freedom of expression and I know it's just a story, but it sounds to me like this particular story has crossed a line. I believe authors of historical fiction have a responsibility to be as true to their subjects' memory and character as they can. Sure, a little leeway has its place in fiction now and then, but if an author has to completely warp a real person's character to fit a contrived plot, there's something wrong with his approach. It's a matter of taste and decency, and IMO, Olga! has gone too far. If it were intended as a satire I could maybe stomach it, but that doesn't seem to be the case with this book.

I can safely say that I won't be buying Olga! -- I couldn't even make it through The Romanov Prophecy... ;)

I believe that the story is only "based" on the Romanovs because of the name recognition that is intended to drive sales. The story is certainly creative enough without attributing it to people that it does not relate to at all. If the author had make up a fictional monarch and his family to go with the fictional backstory, dialogue, and events that I have read from what is posted here, it would not be offensive. I just think that if you're going to tell a story about people that actually lived, get the story right and don't make stuff up. The Romanovs' lives were certainly interesting enough without underwater kingdoms and magical seahorses and whatever else. I feel the same way about the Anastasia cartoon. A cartoon could have been made for children that showed the truth -not talking bats, back from the dead monks, and the absence of house arrest.

Indeed, Sarushka, the author has crossed the line. The best remedy is not to purchase this trash.

I think this storyline is crazy! The author definitely has quite something of an imagination! I sort of think it insults the IF - Alexandra in an evil cult (with some weird magic powers), Olga going crazy over trying to snatch the throne from her brother and name-calling her siblings, Nicholas "leering" at the daughters, etc. Really weird...
Does anyone think any other Romanov fiction books are a little insulting? I've only read Angel On The Square which is sweet, and The Summer Day Is Done, but does anyone think that that book is a little weird because it is a fiction romance on Olga ('insulting' isn't the right word, but I don't know how to explain it)?

At one memorable luncheon, Alexandra mind-controls Olga by sending out orange rays from her eyes right into Olga's forehead....Nicholas didn't notice the orange rays shooting out of Alexandra because of the goof-balls -- and indeed, he doesn't pay all that much attention to his daughters, except to "leer" at them -- and Marie and Anastasia don't seem to have noticed -- maybe because they're hardly in the book at all -- but Tatiana noticed, so Alexandra turned the ray on her too. The girls forgot to talk about the experience later.

;D ;D ;D That's hilarious!! I can't believe someone could actually write such utter..whats the word I'm looking for....umm....CRAP! Thanks for the review, I'm so glad I didn't buy this before learning what this book contains. I'm only slightly tempted to read it for amusement! I don't think Nicholas was the one on goof-balls...it was the author!  ::)

Well, I really don't think it actually insults the IF, because the writer most likely did no research, and just wrote it on a whim. It's just like writing some dumb book on George Washington for fun. It's like the characters in that book aren't even based on the real people, they just share the same names. They could have picked any royal family and replaced the names for the book. What I'm saying probably doesn't make sense, but it's just my opinion.  ;D
