Cora, there is a lot of discussion of THE SUMMER DAY IS DONE, I think you can search the title.  Many like it, I certainly did.  I thought it treated the subject delicately, and the idea of Olga having the kind of romance depicted in the book is likely, and certainly not insulting.
So long and thanks for all the fish

Yes, thanks, Ilana. I liked the book, too.

There is a fine line from writing in the romantic sense, the 'what-if' sense, and the just plain weird.
Sure its a light fiction tale....but please!
Though I can't help but wonder if it is even a worthwhile read, just for the non-seriousness of the subject.

I just ordered it, after reading this discussion. I have a whole section of Romanov trash books and this looks like a perfect addition ! Had never even heard of it until I saw it mentioned in a UK history magazine !!!

Do not get mixed up into this book.  If you have a report on Olga's life...just stick with the non-fiction editions of Romanov books.

I saw it in Hatchards. Is pretty ghastly. Took me all of three seconds to pick it up and put it down again. I think the family is interesting enough without books of fiction!!!

Yeah, but I still want to read some historical fiction and there isnt much out there.  I may give this a go. I'm not as hardcore as some of you guys so I might enjoy it...who knows.

I do know that I liked the kitchen Boy, Rasputian's Daughter and thought Summer Day was horrid and slow.  I'm running out of choices here...

Someone who knows something about Russian better start writing some HF.  I'm gonna rip my eyes out if I have to read any more tudor stuff!  >:(

Typically I wouldn't offer this type of input since I respect the concept that reading tastes can be very subjective. I also don't like to make negative statements about other people's endeavors. That being said, "Olga!" is one big sloppy and highly unreadable mess. The "whatever were they thinking?" phrase certainly applies to the publishers of this rubbish. I also have concerns for the author's mental and emotional stability. Did she decide to write a hoax, or is she truly as untalented and unstable as her book implies? If the latter, I am so sorry, because this thing just reeks.

We all have a certain amount of curiosity, and I realize the best way to get someone interested in something is to tell them not to be interested. So if you must, consider browsing through it at a bookstore rather than spending real money.

On the other hand, if you are a connoisseur of the rock bottom truly awful, go for it. All others: You have been warned!  ::)
