It's very flat and very dull! The area around Sandringham is dull, dull, Dull! I used to live down the road and loathed the landscape! It was especially miserable during the winter months! The house is hideous IMHO!!! A poor relation of St Pancras station plonked in the middle of the most uninspiring landscape imaginable!

Was not Diana born at Park House on the Sandringham Estate?

Is Parek house still there?

I'm I correct in that Park House is no more? York House still exists and is used as an office for the staff who run the estate.

I'm almost certain Park House is still standing. About 10 years ago while filming a tribute to Diana's life her old Nanny returned to the house and practised sliding down the bannister as she had done with Diana years earlier!

Hi,

Let's have some pictures!!!
I have seen photos of the outside of the "Big House" and one of the white room with all the Faberge animals in cabinets, but nothing of the outlying buildings, the gardens or the other interior rooms.

Does anyone have any information or photos of the ground floor rooms on the north end of the house?  The only interior photos I've seen have been of The Saloon, Sm. Drawing Room, Drawing Room, Dining Room and Ballroom.  I've also seen a partial floor plan on earlier threads, but does anyone know if there are any other floor plans out there that show the relationship between the various rooms?  For anyone who has taken the tour of the house, are you able to give an idea of the rooms you go through and the relationship of each of the rooms to one another?  Thanks.

Dear architect, I was only looking at my copy of the guide book last weekend, but unfortunately I don't have it to hand. I would love to see more of the house too, but the rooms you have listed are the only ones open to the public. You see them in the order you have written them, there is a passage between the saloon into the small Drawing Room and another larger passage, with all the guns in cabinets & a fine figure of Persimmon & some lovely paintings, as you make your way to the Ballroom from the Dining room.

I've always longed to see the upstairs, including the room where Eddy died, Queen Alexandras and the Princess's rooms but no such luck :(

As the rooms are closed, I really think each and every room aught to be photographed for prosperity and available for view when you visit, it would be so interesting.

I'm sure all the private rooms have been photographed for posterity - but those probably won't be available for public view so long as the house remains the royal family's private home.  Or - at least - so long as the present Queen reigns.

While not of the private rooms, the link below shows some interior photos I hadn't seen before.

Thanks so much Architect for posting the photos of your brochure.  From what I can see, the estate appears to be well worth a visit for royalty buffs.  The Visitor Centre is beautiful and looks a like a fun place for a sandwich and some tea.

It seems to be quite far removed  from the usual description of being a rustic and remote royal cottage.  The interior is as grand as any palace.

The estate is approx. 32 square miles....quite spacious!

Here is an additional link I found that shows some great photos of the house - this appears to be an older version of a guide book?

Your quite welcome, the photos aren't from my brochure, I simply found them online - but it does appear to be from an older version of a brochure or guide book.  In any respect, there are some beautiful photos of the main rooms.  I recently purchased an older book on Sandringham that has circa 1889 photos of the house including the Prince of Wales Business Room, Morning Room, The Ballroom Corridor, Bowling Alley, Libraries, Billard Room, Princess Alexandra's Sitting Room as well as some great photos of the exterior prior to the Ballroom Addition, etc.  I'll try to scan and post them, unfortunately some are small and all in black and white.  Has anyone else noticed that in very early photos of the Great Saloon, there are doorways on either side of the fireplace on the south end.  At some point these have been made into concealed doorways - any thoughts on why?

Architect that book sounds wonderful, it would be wonderful if you could post any photos from it and the title of the book too!
