Born in the Purple by Paul Gilbert (upcoming OTMA book)
« on: July 30, 2006, 11:32:52 AM »
I saw on the internet a new book that hasn't been published yet, but I can't find anywhere to actually purchase it, does anyone know about or seen this this title? It's called 'Born to Purple, the daughters of the last tsar" or something like that. I did a google search but cant find it now. I think I saw it on a brazilian site a long time ago. Any one know of this?

If you mean "Born in the Purple," then this book is the work of a gentleman in Canada who has been working on it for a number of years.  I haven't heard any hard and fast publication date, but I have heard recently that it will be sooner rather than later.  With the amount of work that must have gone into it through the years, I hope it will be very good.

At the risk of sounding sacrireligous, what on earth is there to say about the OTMA clan ? They died before they HAD a biography, for heaven's sake.  Lots of pictures perhaps.  Some notes from other's diaries and memoirs and of course the de rigeur Anastasia chapter. I suppose some innocous lettres & diary enries.
If this fellow has been working on it for a number of years, it must be a longer research project than their unfornate lives lasted.
Of course, it will sell, at least to the niche market.

Some time ago I have read about a new book about OTMA, which should be published soon. Can anyone tell me more about that?

In a recent email with Mr. Gilbert, he has said he hopes to publish it in 2009.
He is going to Russia this summer to finish his research.  :)

Did Mr. Gilbert mention anything about the book's content? I'm curious as to what it will contain, because you can't get really far with descriptions of the children's personalities and hobbies....

That's a good question Ortino.
I haven't asked him outright about the content, but I just sent him an email about it.
I'll let you know if I get any more information!  :)

Was there ever any answer from Mr. Gilbert? The update says it won't be published until after the burial of Alexis and Maria, and there is no date set from the russian gov. This could be a while, you know how governments are! I wonder why he is waiting for the burial, we may never see the book...

I agree with Robert and Ortino. There really isn't anything new to be said about the girls, unless Mr Gilbert has unearthed a hitherto-undiscovered stash of letters or diaries (unlikely).
