Hey I read on Wikipedia that towards the end of her life Mathilda K met Anna Anderson out of curiosity. Any truth in this? Does anyone have any info about this? CHeers.

I thought I read that in some book ( I don't really read wikipedia, so it wasn't there). I would appreciate if anyone could hunt down the source for this? I hope it isn't the Lost Princess one of James Blair Lovell, because that isn't very accurate.

Wikipedia has the following information.

"The Tsar’s former mistress who married Grand Duke Andrei after the revolution, Mathilde Kschessinska met Anna Anderson towards the end of her life out of curiosity. "[43]

Thanks. I don't have that book with me right now, but if I get a chance, or someone else gets a chance, it would be worthwhile to look up. I remember reading it in there, I'm pretty sure, and I thought she ( Mathilde) said that the blue of Nicholas's eyes was the like blue of the eyes of Anna Anderson, or something like that?

Yes, I remember I read that somewhere too. Except that someone else said that Anastasia actually had grey eyes like her mother....

Yes, I remember reading that Mathilde had said AA eye's resembled Nicholas', but I don't think she was the only one who said that...can't think of names but that is a phrase that was repeated in books and documentry's.

Although it is not always pointed out, Kschesskinskya never met HIH the Grand Duchess Anastasia.

She said AA had the "look of the tsar" in her eyes.

The AA-Kschessinska episode was also mentioned in "Romanov Fantasy". Mathilde was quite old when she met AA, something like in her 90's. She based her "recognition" of AA as Anastasia on the fact that her eyes looked "just like the Emperor's" (in other words they were probably the same color - blue). But as Lisa mentioned, Mathilde never met the real Anastasia, so I am not sure why anyone would even ask Mathilde's opinion on the AA matter. Her husband, GD Andrei probably went along with his strong-willed wife's opinion and agreed that AA was Anastasia. I'm not sure how familiar Andrei was with the imperial children...

And as someone else said, others have always said that Anastasia had her mothers eyes.

I have never read Imperial Dancer, so please forgive me if the answer can be found there. Is it known if Mathilde had any faithful servants that accompanied her out of Russia when she left with GD Andrei and their son?
